Buddy, the opening scene of the movie shows Mt Carmel Church on 187th Street. When the movie was filmed everyone in the Arthur Ave. section of the Bronx thought all the scenes would be fimed there. But other then the opening and ending shots it was filmed in Queens.
My uncle owns a store across the street from Mt Carmel church. They were all offended feeling betrayed. Before the filming they had people taking all sorts of shots of 187th,Belmont,Hughes Avs,Fordham Rd,etc.
But Queens had better streets.
My grandfather drove that bus route in the movie. He was a trolley car driver then a bus driver for 30 yrs.
I listen to the CD all the time. A great movie.

Box,

Thanks for the reply.

In 1967-68, I was in the Navy stationed in New London, Conn and made friends with a jewish kid from the Bronx. We went to NYC every chance we had. NYC was fabulous. It was bigger than life. I was 21, single, had a pocketful of money and was spending my free time in the greatest city in the world. Man, the memories. I had the world by the nuts.
