Today was comical. Fortunately I didn't lose a huge amount of money, but it was more a matter of how I lost.
The day started with Mich. State at -3, who proceed to push thanks to going 0 for 3 from the line in the final 20 seconds. I guess it could've been worse since the line moved to 3.5 and a push is a lot better than a loss. I head out to the track to catch the final 4 races from Gulfstream. There's a filly moving up in class named How About it who is razor sharp and is 5-1. I head toward the automated tote machine about 2 minutes before post. The tote machine eats my voucher. I can't leave and run to another window or machine because I'll lose my voucher. They finally get a tech to fix the machine but not before the race is over and I see How About It wins and pays over $12 while I've been shut out. I make one more bet at the OTB and lose a photo finish. Enough. I want to catch the Wake/NC game and I stop by my parents house to pick up their mail while they are out of town. I turn on the TV and see the Wake game is low scoring in the first half. I decide the over for the 2nd half would be logical since I thought the first half was slower tempoed than I expected. I log on to the archaic AOL system, which takes over 5 minutes (my dad is too cheap to get DSL or a cable modem) but I finally log on. I plan on betting the Duke/FSU over as well which I see is 150. Just as I'm about to place the 2nd half bet, I'm kicked off the system. It turns out my dad has logged onto his laptop in Phoenix, kicking me out. Pissed off, I head to my house, knowing full well the 2nd half of Wake/Carolina will fly over the total (which it does). I finally log on to my computer (thank God for DSL) to bet the Duke over, which of course is now a full 2 points higher than 20 minutes earlier.
Not making a bet that wins is the same as losing a bet.
