Wow, first big week coming up. I plan for this to be my biggest year ever, and I invite everyone to share it with me. Take the info, blend it into your own, share your insights, etc. I like plenty of interaction in my threads.

For those not familiar with me, let me introduce my rating system. Most of my plays are 5* and 7*. I might occasionally have an action play of 3* -- probably something I want to watch on TV. And I will have an occasional 10*, which is a GOW type play. I will probably have 1-3 15* GOY plays.

My expertise is in the SEC, ACC, C-USA, and the Big East. Most of my big plays will involves teams from these conferences.

I'll start off in the early week to take advantage of line movement. I will add plays throughout the week and even on Saturday throughout the day. I've been known to add West Coast plays on Saturday night. Some of my larger plays might not be posted until Saturday, and some might be upgrades of plays posted earlier. All lines will be the lines as I got them.

Now on to the plays. I grabbed a few last night before the lines moved.

Sept 2nd
5* Northwestern +7.5
I like the fact that the Wildcats return 17 starters off last year's 6-7 team. In fact they only lost 11 lettermen. Wildcats are 14-5 ATS in their last non-conference road games. I respect TCU's program -- over 75% of the team can bench 400 or more. Still, I don't think there will be more than a touchdown difference in this game either way. Should be a good one.

5* Texas A&M +10
I believe in Coach Franchione. Anyone who can take New Mexico to an unbeaten season has to have something going for him. I also think Utah is being given just a little bit too much respect. A&M has recruited well and their talent should show up this season. Found this at +9.5 last night and bought the half to bring it up to +10. I wouldn't be surprised if the score was a lot closer.

Saturday
7* Oregon St +18.5
I see this as a defensive struggle. LSU will run a lot and control the clock. The Beavers are no pushovers. I see LSU scoring 23 at the most, and OSU should at least score a TD. I'll probably be looking at the under and a teaser on both later in the week.

5* Rutgers +7
When two evenly talented teams square off, why not go with the home team? Why are the visitors favored by a TD? Because Michigan St is Michigan St and Rutgers is Rutgers. Rutgers will have their best team in years, and they'd like nothing better than to unseat the Spartans. Michigan St is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 as road favorites. Rutgers is 19-7-1 ATS in non-conference games since '97. I wouldn't be surprised if Rutgers won this one straight up.

5* Vanderbilt +5
Over the years I've seen many teams go into Nashville early and look silly against the 'Dores. Vandy has 21 starters returning and lost only 13 lettermen. The Cocks might be better overall this year, but if they beat Vandy in this spot it won't be by much. I'd rather have those points.

More later.

Good luck this season and great first call. Love the A&M call. I actually think A&M will win this game.

Take a look a N. Ill if you can get 14.5. I know all the revenge angels etc., but MD is going to struggle offensively early this season. They are a very young team and have questions at QB. They are strong again defensively, but are going to have trouble scoring. I don't think they will lose but laying 2 TD's is too much.

I am a huge MD fan, but don't think they cover here. Watch out for Jordan Steffy though, true freshman QB, he is second string to start the season, but he is going to be a star.

Don't know how much of an impact it's going to have on the NW/TCU game, but the LE for NW is not going to start due to injury. Still like NW with the points, but need to take a look at the depth charts see who's backing him up.

The guy replacing him was a starter in 2002. Still quite a drop off in talent.

Guys, since I originally posted the above games, the spread has moved in our favor in just about every one of them. I don't expect you to hop on my plays just because I post them early, but you'll get much better lines if you do.

Here is my 1st 10* of the year.

10* Ole Miss -3

Where do you play a guy who benches 400 and runs a 4.4? If you're Ole Miss, you put him at QB and call him Michael Spurlock. Spurlock can run with the WRs and lift with the LBs. Not only that, Michael has a stronger arm than Eli. He also has Eli's top-notch group of WRs and the best OL in the SEC. Jr RB Vashon Pearson is ready to live up to his considerable potential, while backup RB Alan Abrams will make a name for himself as a freshman. The Rebel offense should have no problem putting up points against a Memphis defense that returns only one starter to their front 7.

Speaking of fronts, Ole Miss has only one returning starter themselves, DT Daniel Booth, only he's out for this game with an injury. No problem -- Ole Miss has defensive depth like never before. They have 5 DTs who are practically interchangable. DE Jayme Mitchell at 6-6 and 270 will wreak havoc on QBs. DT McKinley Boykin is a bigger, stronger, quicker, more talented version of last year's star Jessie Mitchell. DT Chris Herring at 310 throws OLs around. Soph Patrick Willis is a budding star at LB. The secondary is deep and talented. They'll be far from the injury plagued group Memphis and Texas Tech tore up last year.

I am aware that Memphis has it's best team in years. DeAngelo Williams is a RB that Ole Miss wanted badly. Albert Means is finally realizing his potential at DT. Danny Wimprine is a winner at QB and he has his top WRs back. However, Memphis does not have the overall talent that Ole Miss has. Ole Miss is at home and they are totally focused on this game. They don't lose to the Tigers often, and they want revenge badly. This should be a high-scoring affair with the Rebels winning by at least 10.

7* UNLV +21
Don't see how this spread even made the books. Tennessee playing freshman QBs in their 1st game and have not proven they belong with the Vol teams of old. UNLV is talented and experienced. This will be closer than most expect. No way Tennessee wins by 3 TDs. Might win by 10.

NY Reb,

I really respect your capping ability and have cotailed many times. What is your feeling about the UL/KY game, I just feel that KY does not have the guns to keep up with the Ville, I am a little biased, so I would like your take on it if you have one. thanks

NY Reb,

...have many of your picks circled. already played a few...(NW and EMU) and leaning toward T A&M...but got to disagree with ya on memphis. maybe it's a heart play instead of a head play, but methinks memphis can pull the upset here. (lookin' to make a play on the ML) However, when the total comes out, much like you, I will most likely playing the OVER!!! :)

BOL this season. :)

Phenom, I'd tend to side with Louisville on this one, but the trouble is, it seems a little obvious. Vegas doesn't just give away money. I'm half inclined to make a contrarian play on Kentucky, but I think I'll pass.

Box, good to hear from you, friend. I'll be looking forward to hearing your point of view, and you take care.

Taoist, I was waiting for you to chime in, and of course I knew which way you'd go. Sure wish that game were televised. Any chance that you'll be seeing it?

1.) Yep, recognized the sig right away!!! ...great line, man. (...but it's the Tao "Te" Ching, brother.) :)

2.) Hope that my fundamental handicapping pays off and I don't realize after the game that my heart got into play, but best of luck to ya...and only time will tell. Yeah, I will be in Miss this weekend this weekend to see the game.... Sold my TN v UNLV tickets to see my Tigers in the Grove. (Too much trim not to go to that game!!!) :)

...always enjoy your posts and outlook, knock 'em dead this season, brother.

p.s. Have hung on the bathroom mirror this quote: "If I have lost confidence in myself, I have the universe against me." Ralph Waldo Emerson :)

How did a taoist end up in Memphis anyway? Do you know many people there who think like you, or do you stand out as much as I did in Mississippi?

...ye ole taoist ended up in memphrica on an academic scholarship of all things. LOL (Go figure....) :)

...yeah, I kinda stuck out like a sore thumb, but let me tell ya, there are plenty of suckers in memphrica. If you haven't read Amarillo Slim's "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People", you should. ;) To be honest, many folks have the wrong impression of me.... I am just a good ole fashioned country boy...with a lil more in the noggin' than others. (...while most probably picture me as Asian...nothing wrong with that, as I have many Asian friends...I have simply studied Taoism.) I'm just a redneck with an intellect.... :weed:

Will you be at the game on Sat? If so, get my e-mail from Jack and drop me a line.... We'll have a beer or 12. LOL :toast:
