Today reported in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
To the rescue: Yost was called to the rescue late Thursday night when centerfielder Bill Hall was detained by a National Parks Service ranger after committing a traffic violation while driving a friend's car. Hall and the friend were returning from a late dinner when the ranger pulled them over for failing to make a turn while in a turn lane.
The ranger gave Hall a field sobriety test, which he passed. Nevertheless, the ranger - who was on duty at the nearby Gateway Arch - asked that a member of the team come pick him up, which Yost did.
"It didn't make sense to me that a ranger was involved," Yost said. "Billy really didn't do anything wrong except fail to make a turn in a turn lane."
Hall said he didn't understand why the ranger wanted someone to come get him but decided not to make an issue of it.
"That's what he wanted to do, so I did it," Hall said.
Can you imagine how other players would have reacted?
Rasheed?
Pacman Jones?
Most NBA Players?
Any Cincinnati Bengal?
The point is, for many players this would have been a huge incident, with many bad things coming out of it. Latrell Sprewell would run over the ranger. Pacman would have shot him (or had one of his "peoples" shoot him.
And although Billy Hall probably didn't agree with the officer, he went along with it. So, instead of being in jail, and his reputation taking a hit, this becomes a footnote - a "so what" type of incident.
Kudos to Billy Hall for not making a minor incident something major, as many pampered, spoiled athletes do most of the time today!
