Saddam is defeated. Iraq is, for all practical purposes, liberated. Having accepted that fact the international press corps has moved on to addressing the realities of post-Saddam Iraq.

Judging from questions at news conferences, the new media fixation will be on the role of the United Nations in rebuilding Iraq. For some reason much of the international press seems to think that there is no possible way that Iraq can be stabilized, rebuilt and launched into a new era of freedom and self-determination without the help of the United Nations.

Question: Tell me just one country out there who has the United Nations to thank for its transition from despotism to freedom. Just one.

Once again the United Nations has proven that it is and remains an essentially anti-American institution. The Kyoto Treaty, the International Criminal Court, and so many other U.N. institutions or creations

The U.N. failed miserably at containing Saddam Hussein over a period of 12 years. A 15-day deadline for disarmament turned into a 4,400 day series of endless and meaningless threats, resolutions, arms inspections and rhetoric. The U.N. has never lived up to its role as a keeper of the peace. Instead it has become a protector of dictators and an enemy to the cause of freedom.

Even as we speak U.N. officials are developing and promoting plans for a worldwide income tax .. more money to fund the inefficiencies and adventures of this wannabe one-world government.

France?s HAWIC, Jacques Chirac, says that the U.N., and only the U.N. can confirm that weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq. It is only through its permanent membership on the U.N. Security Council that France manages to hang on to any international prestige at all.

Why in the world would the United States want to turn over the administration of Iraq, which would mean the administration of all contracts for the rebuilding of Iraq, to this organization? Sure, France, Germany and Russia would be thrilled! This is probably the only way they can recover some of their lucrative Saddam-era contracts.

Did American soldiers die on the battlefield in order to preserve the financial ties that France, Germany and Russia had with the Saddam Hussein regime? That is the end that will be brought about by U.N. control of the post-war processes.

Give the U.N. a role. Let them hand out warm meals and some water. Beyond that, let them realize the true benefits of over a decade of inaction.

I think the un is in control of kosov's transformation & I think they are having many problems. If I get a chance I will check that out.

The un should handle feeding the iraqi people, cleaning the municiple bathrooms, & parking cars, nothing more.

American soldiers died over there because America stands for FREEDOM, JUSTICE, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS (aka American Dream).....

and its about damn time that we tell the UN to F*** Off!!!!!

America is not about "colonization", "oil", "greed", or whatever.....if anyone is about that sht, its France, Germany and Russia!!!! As the evidence from Iraq has shown!!!!

Its about time that we start PROMOTING America instead of giving these leftist idiots the time of day to bash bash bash our country because we do not redistribute the wealth like they do in Communist China (keep the wealth in the ruling class) or the former Soviet Empire. Our "poor" and "oppressed" drive cars, eat way too much (most are way overweight), get the best health care this world has ever known DESPITE what any politician says....etc. etc.......America provides for its poor -- even when the government doesn't have a program for it!!! If any of these liberals have never seen a church, charity, or cars handing out food and $$ to the guy on the street, i guess they can argue that we do not provide for them....Last i checked we haven't had anyone starve to death in this country for a long time -- what other country doesn;t deal with that???

BUt these "thinkers" in our institutions who never had a job continue to nitpick at America like its supposed to be absolutely flawless....like for some reason WE are supposed to take care of all our problems and also everyone else's and if we don't it is the governments responsibility!!!

Enough is Enough!!!!

Screw this mentality and Screw the UN. We will set up a democracy and as soon as they have some sort of civil order....we get out.....and let them decide for themselves who their friends are....Lets have a little bit of faith in the Arab mind -- which could be the greatest mind of them all.....just look throughout history and see what kind of innovation came from the Arabs when they were NOT repressed under terror and evil dictators.....Lots of things came out of there around the turn of the 1000 years.....Algebra, chemistry, etc. etc. were all arabic in origin...great minds these people have.....look what the Egyptians were doing when they had a great Empire...when some fanatical regimes were not forcing the people to stay in the stone age

I say lets go in there and prove once again the naysayers wrong and start building up our country instead of tearing it down with all this groundless and baseless "oil" and whatever else talk. Let actions speak for themselves and show the world what a joke the UN really is...
