Doc, just curious if you tried this out? I noticed a big difference in the speed of my computer after running this one.

Captain: I just bought this a few minutes ago based on what you said. I noticed that the PAID scan was far more in depth than the free one! I liked the fact that it scanned your registry, memory, and cookies ALONG with your files. It took 20 minutes. I also liked the fact it did not jump 10,000 files like ad-aware!

Thanks bro!

(Also less grinding. SWEET!! ;) )

edited: still some grinding going on!

I posted this thread on another (techie) board, and here is an IT professional's response.....

I use Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D all the time. SpyHunter took over 30 mins to scan my PC and found 4 items. I then ran Spybot S&D it completed the scan in less than 5 mins and found the same 4 items. I wasn't at all impressed with SpyHunter mainly because it took so long to complete the scan plus their scam of you must pay to have the items removed. I decided to do a System Restore with GoBack to a few minutes before the time I installed SpyHunter. Still being suspicious with SpyHunter I then ran Spybot S&D again to see if it would pick up those 4 items and sure enough Spybot S&D came up clean. So that told me that SpyHunter installs spyware on your machine to get you concerned and hopefully to buy their useless program. It's definitely a Big BS Advertising Scam.

Below is a link to CNET where they have a User Opinion Rating on SpyHunter - Results were 20% and 80%

Hamster,

You would be better off with both. For blocking pop-ups I se the google toolbar, not one pop-up.

I also have installed Spywareblaster, and Spywareguard. Plus, a firewall (Zonelabs) and an anti-virus program to keep everything in check.

On average, when I do a scan of my PC, I usually get 3-4 cookies that are deposited, but nothing dangerous in terms of spyware.

If you find your CPU starts slow, or acts up (load time), one is better off posting a LOG of their cpu via HIJACKTHIS, it will remove all the junk. I have posted about this before.

Run an online antivirus check from at least one of the following sites

http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

Symantec site works great as well...

once a week I perform a scan of my cpu with Ad-aware V6.0 and spybot, but yet some trojans are not removed. For example I did a scan today with both programs and nothing was found.

I then went to the symantec website posted in the above post and 1 trojan was found in
C:\WINDOWS\msiexec.exe is infected with Trojan dropper

But when I did a log using HIJACK THIS program, I was able to identify it and have it removed. Spybot and Ad-aware couldn't resolve the trojan issue.
I for one am sure that many of you if not ALL of you have some form of spyware on your cpu that is not able to be removed via SPYBOT and AD-AWARE. Hijack this resolves this issue.

Its called HIJACK THIS

Here is the program... http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

another great site with links

If anyone wants to have their cpu free of junk, post your log (instructions above) and I'll have an IT at the professional site
http://forums.techguy.org/t110854/s.html look at it, then I'll post what should be removed, a link will be posted so that you can verify it.

Spybot is good what they had to offer in the way of philosophy makes sense. Spybot catches things that Ad-aware doesn't. Both of these programs are free and as near as I can tell, their sites don't send data miners out into my machine, some of the other sites promoting their "spy" cleaning software do. So the short of it is, if it works for you great!!!
You're not going to get them all, these two programs do require frequent updates, which is an easy process. Any site you go to has the potential to put stuff on your machine. MSN, for example, who injects you with their cookie bots when you check hotmail. But at least you'll know when you clean them out youstart fresh every time!!!

Hjack This I wouldn't feel comfortable using without someone very much in the know talking me through it (ie, what to remove and what not to remove) some things you have to go into the registry to remove, and we ALL have had lessons about entering the registry!!!

Captian Crunch,
In a word, no, the link you posted has no bearing on either the speed of your internet, OR the noise you are hearing. And while a mono-syllable answer from me might have been more appropriate I will try to write up for you a less geeky answer because even tho unfortunately, while your question is very simple, the answers can get complex depending on what your machine is being deployed for, and I have a huge paper to finish.

By its very design, the nature of software of this nature is to be a net-consumer of resources. Privacy involve, in all likelihood, encryption.

The "speed" of a computer is measured in various levels, and is defined by more than one parameter.

Speed of what???

The processor?
The memory?
The Network Interface?
The Modem?
The Hard drive?
The Video Card?
The interface between the motherboard and the hard drive?
The frontal cache which is on the die of the processor itself?
The secondary cache attached to the processor?

Most all of the above are pre-determined and constant. The system can be made to run more efficiently by making modifications to the Operating System kernel to cuit an individual need of an user, particularly if the use of the machine for a non-standard purpose for which the default parameters are not all that suitable.

In Windoze, these kernel settings are addressed by changing certain known and unknown values in teh Windows Registry. In the platform I work on most of the time, we compile our kernels ourselves, so we can custom build our systems to suit our needs to a tee.

What slows the web down the most is:

1- Too many people online,
and
2- Mircosoft!!!

Good Luck!!!
