After the 1/2 time plays, can someone help me figure out this HD thing?

I was watching the game and at a commercial, I was dicking around checking all the high number channels and I stumbled on ESPN HD. I about had a heart attack! The picture is ridiculous! I mean it's perfect! I never knew I had it! Why doesn't the regular ESPN channel just stay on HD all the time? Apparently, I only have 4 channels that have HD, including Showtime.

Do CBS, NBC,and ABC have "HD" channels? If so, is that an extra charge on your cable bill? I'm calling Charter tomorrow for an explanation.

I can not believe the picture!

Any assistance would be appreciated.

If this gets moved to General Discussion, I understand. Was hoping for a quick response so I posted here.

TIA

Nole -- I know that Fox and CBS have their games availiable on HD, and NBC had the Olympics in HD as well, so somewhere they are available. Not sure what the extra charges are, but they do exist.

UT-L, it's a View Sonic pj650. It's a projection TV. 9 foot screen. Big SOB! Surround sound. I feel like I'm at the game. I really do now with this picture!

Thanks Blackman. I'm calling my cable folks tomorrow, that's for sure.

To get HD from the networks, you may need to use an antenna to receive the signal. Some cable companies will have the HD signal over their regular digital signal, but none of the dish companies do yet. If you want HD on NBC, CBS, etc. and have a dish, you need an antenna to get an OTA signal.
