al-queda question

Not sure if I spelled that correctly, but am I the only one that wants to find out a little bit more about what the hell is going on at these prisons/ camps that hold the suspected terrorists????

I mean, you've got some messed up people who are willing to kill themselves for a cause..... but now, all of a sudden, they're singing like a canary when they are in these camps!??

All of our news shows are so quick to report what is being said by the top al-quaeda operatives, yet none that I have heard have even raised the question about how the CIA and FBI and whoever else gets this info.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a little torture here or there.... or a truth serum slipped into a nice glass of milk, but I mean, c'mon.... nobody has had this cross their mind, or are they just purposely avoiding it?

I makes me laugh everytime I hear a new lead.... I just think to myself that they must be doing something pretty nuts to get these guys who will kill themself for allah but start spilling the beans on all these alledged plots.

anyone else?

I could care less what they do with them, feed em to the sharks, throw em in the cages with some gators, throw em in some pirahna infested waters, or put em in the cage with some UFC fighters and offer it on pay-per-view.........any of the above would suffice....and actually the last idea i mentioned wouldnt be a bad idea.......our govt could actually make a little $$ off of em........

It is my understanding that terrorist get a lot of their courage aside from religious beliefs, from support from their comrades much similiar to our pep rallys at school events but a much more intense frenzy. Once isolated from these factors reality begins to sink in. Also a little prompting that if they don't "sing" to us we will turn them over to the Mossad for more interrogation. They do NOT want that as they know they will play by same rules as themselves and fight terror with terror. It has been said if not for back lashes from the "civilized" world the Mossad could put an end to suicide bombings in short order. While terrorist do not fear death they do in most cases have close ties to immediate family and in some cases are encouraged by rewards to said family from their deeds. If after the the next suicide bomber was indentified, his immediate family would somehow suffered the same fate he rendered, the future matryrs would diminish drastically.

Wondo - Just to add my two cents, you must not read many spy books or something. The guys they got down in cuba are singled out and used as operatives. It is very difficult for Al queda to know who has been captured in the first place.
So they get these guys to make some phone calls and say here I am I am safe what is going on and what do you need me to do ?

They are promised safe harbor or whatever. Give them money take them back to Afghan or settle in another country after they provide the big tips.

Dont cut the US information lines short. These guys are the best and will get the job done.

Hope that helps.

I understand that the higher ups of alqaeda are not kept at the Cuba prison. I have heard that they are brought to other countries, such as Egypt, for interrogation. And Egypt is not afraid to use some methods of torture. BTW, not all methods of torture are cutting fingers off, etc. I undrstand that countries also use sleep depravation.

Dogs beat me to it. Isolating these guys from those that feed their anger results in an inevitable meltdown. These guys might even have some time now to examine the route they were taking. Perhaps the brighter ones could even see how they were being manipulated.

---a little off the subject but may be off interest. Have heard one of the ultimate forms of torture which inflicts no pain what so ever is suspending a person in a container of water to provide total weightlessness with no light or sound(gives ya lots of time to think).Being void of senses for extended time will drive one stark raving mad in short order.
This little jewel is said to be true also in dealing with some of those that carried out assualts in Munich. After finding house where several culprits were living, they went in when no one was home, unplugged frig, opened frig, broke glass off bulb that lights frig, put in pan of gasloline, close frig door, plugged frig back in.
Fumes spread throughout frig, culprits come home, open frig, exposed filiment in bulb burns igniting fumes>goodby culprits!

About a year ago or so 60 Minutes did a piece on torture. The expert they talked to said that one of their most effective techniques was a "wet towel over the face". He didn't detail how to do it, but the idea was that it suffocated the person.

Apparently its a very terrifying thing to suffocate until you pass out and its not an experience you want to relive. You think you're going to die.

On the other hand, it's not too tough to make one of these guys talk, but the value of information obtained through torture is always questionable.

Every month or so we get floated one of these reports about "a possible terrorist act at a mall" or someplace. Is that from one of these guys just saying something to end torture? Is that just our leaders making sure they've put a warning out there to cover their asses in case something does happen?

I don't know. But right now, you can bet those prisoners down in cuba certainly don't know about current Al Qaeda plans or locations.

Of course if you want to torture them just to punish them, maybe you should see a therapist and talk about your childhood.

On Wondo's original point: there certainly has been talk about torture at these places. There's not too many reports about it, but I don't think anyone's trying to keep it a secret that it happens down there. The media's values are different than those of "Amnesty International".
