Anyone effected by this? From what I gather they are spinning off and making PM International and Altria. Ths move might make them exempt from lawsuits. Still doing research but wondering others viewpoints.
Morris I believe the main reason for the spinoff is they believe that the international division can trade at a higher premium by it self.
The domestic operations face a decline in smokers, as smokers as a percentage of the population slowly declines. this is in contrast to the growth in the international side, where smoking in many countries is on the increase.
though there will be a some lawsuits believe the domestic will have a higher yield, (div), and be valued somewhat like a utility. good income however little growth.
the int. unit will have high growth rates, at least going forward for 5 years. the int. division will also face lawsuits and increased taxes (mainly by the governments) however this is in the future. 5-10 years down the road.
thanks
