I don't remember for sure but it seems like they were some people on the Colts -9 on here. I liked the other side, and almost took the Jags +9. Unfortunately, I ended up taking under 42. Now, here's where the rant comes...
I remember someone recently saying that how awful it was that the Raiders quit in last Sunday's game in the 4th quarter. So here's my question to you... is it ANY better when a defense quits on a game just because they are up by a lot of points? Indy led 26-3 with a little over four minutes to play. Rather than at least TRY to play solid defense, they pretty much quit. I understand soft zones and prevent defenses... blah, blah, blah, the Colts D simply quit. The first TD was reasonable. But then, after not recovering the onside kick, their D plays just as poorly on the very next drive and give up ANOTHER TD. At that point, I thought they might grow a brain and realize that the 2 point conversion would result in it being a one possession game. Apparently not. Garrard could have crawled into the end zone on that 2 pointer. Unreal.
If it weren't for Peyton completing a pass on 3rd and 8 to close out the game, the Jags would have gotten that ball back with 1:30 to play and a very realistic chance of tying that game (considering Indy's D had already quit). If that would have happened, everyone would be calling them out for quitting and sitting on a lead. As it turns out, nobody says anything because they managed to squeak out a win. Apparently it's all academic that they quit on their team? I don't know, maybe I'm a little more old-school than others but I think the last 5 or 6 minutes by that defense was pathetic. I don't care if you have a big lead, you close a game out. You don't simply hope that the clock runs out before the other team scores 3 TDs on you.
Another note... Indy's D did the same thing against Cincy. They had a 17-point lead and gave it away in a matter of minutes. They did, however, manage to close that game out and win it. Bottom line, they simply DO NOT play hard for 60 minutes, especially when they get a big lead.
Ok, my rant is over.... would love to hear other opinions.
