It?s well known that the U.S. has grappled with growing obesity levels, and a new Gallup poll confirms that Americans just keep getting larger. The report finds 27 percent of Americans had a body mass index (BMI) that classified them as obese in 2013, compared with 25.5 percent in 2008.

Hawaiians currently have the lowest rate of obesity, but that?s still a whopping 19 percent of the state?s population. Mississippi has the highest number of residents who are obese: 35.2 percent.

alarming numbers...and it affects many different portions of American living..

including health care and work production..

Some of us have just been ahead of the curve. Nice to see obesity is finally catching on.

This will only continue, Americans have adopted unhealthy eating habits from youth. Now, they have the food companies against them. It's best to stick to the outside aisles when grocey shopping. Vegetables, berries, etc. Read the book salt, sugar, fat it's a real eye opener.

Food Like Products versus Food. Look at what people eat here versus in other countries.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Sadly

Sadly

if you try and eat healthy, the berries, grapes, tomatoes, apples, pears, oranges, more often than not, taste like weak flavored spongy cardboard.

There was a day (many moons ago) you easily bought fruits and veggies that were delicious.

I don't know what in the producing, transportation, handling chain has changed, but anyone thats been around awhile knows of what I speak.

Well, as you recall, fruits and veggies had a "season", many years ago. Now, you can get anything "fresh", all year long. There is a reason for that, and it's most likely not healthy, or tasty!

Have you noticed how fast fruit goes bad nowadays? I bought three nectarines on Wednesday and one is already shit. I kept it in the fruit drawer and everything. (So wanted to insert gay joke here but changed my mind)

Aint that the truth, I really like mangos and bought a few last week. One is already bad. Same thing happens with cantelope. My go to fruit is always pineapple, but that can be hit or miss too.

Buy local, buy in season, buy farmers markets. And yeah an avacado in December probably isn't going to be that fresh.

 I have to lose some weight. When your body doesn't allow you to exercise, it's tough to maintain a healthy weight especially since I have always eaten whatever I wanted. Being in Las Vegas makes it more than tough too.

Hi Clint, That weight will burn right off if you just walk up and down the strip or up and down the downtown area. I was down there a few months ago and that's all I did. Found myself losing more weight than I left with. You're tall and skinny, so I'm sure you can burn it right off. Have a bunch of fun!
