ANA @ LA Total only 5??

Why is the total on this game only 5o125?

I know neither team has been lighting it up offensively lately, but defensively there have been problems. For LA, Stumpel coming back should help the offense out (if he plays). ANA goaltending not so good, and they have trouble with injuries on Def with Tverdovsky and Vishnevski questionable. Both teams' home-and-away GPG for & against averages total way over 5. On 2 days rest, the OU is 12-8 for ANA; 4-5 for LA. The OU for the Kings at home this season is 22-13.

To me, this line should really be 5.5. What gives? Something to do with the fact that it's going to be broadcast on ABC?

Any input appreciated

J.S Gigure has been hot lately for Anaheim, so your statement about Anaheim's goaltending being bad is a little bit misleading...
Potvin has played incredibly well over the last 4 weeks to get LA back into the playoff picture and until recently, LA couldn't score out of a paper bag...
Another suggestion is that this is an inter-division game, which tend to be closer checking games as teams don't want to give teams in their own division extra points in the standings...
The last two games between these teams have been Anahein winning both games by identical 4-0 scores...there's probably something else that i've missed, but that's just my
"suggestions" as to why the O/U is 5.0 and not 5.5.
hope that helps...

I partly agree with your insight here, Toronto-V...I didn't intend to be misleading regarding the ANA goaltending situation, it's true that JSG has been playing well lately...not as well on the road as at home though: 2.8 GAA Road vs. 2.1 Home L10 (not sure if LA counts as "away"...technically it does i suppose) As for Potvin, I feel he has really been playing well, but that this is not a consistant level for him...I think he is simply not as good as his recent record might indicate.

Good point about the inter-divisional matchup here, that had eluded my consideration...seems especially pertinant considering LA's tough situation being tied with PHX for the last playoff spot...they should tighten things up a bit.

Still leaning toward the over...not too sure though

The total is 5 because of the teams' recent form -- and remember both teams made major roster changes that would suggest lower-scoring games. LA has gone over 5 just 4 times in last 16 games (Miller replacing Blake means more D and less O), and in Anaheim's last 25 road games there have been 16 unders 4 pushes and 5 overs -- and now Selanne is gone. Ana has gone under 5 7 of last 14 games overall, with 4 games landing on 5. Giguere has improved, and Potvin (despite allowing 7 goals on 17 shots last time out) has solidified LA's goaltending. You can't look at these teams' year-long goal averages. I like the under.

I just realized Aaron Miller is out for LA, and Stumpel will be in the line-up centering Palffy & Robitaille. Not sure about this game.
