ANGELS/GIANTS Under 8 (Thursday) - The pitchers finally regained control of this series last night, and we now have a pitching rematch from Game #1. Washburn did not pitch terribly in that start, allowing 6 hits in 5.2 innings. He was victimized by the long ball, as all 4 runs that he allowed came on 3 dingers. As great as Washburn?s overall numbers are this year (19-7, 3.20 ERA), they are actually better on the road, where he is 13-3 with a 2.79 ERA and a sparkling 1.16 WHIP, allowing a scant OBA of just .228! Similarly, Schmidt has been brilliant at home this season, posting a 2.58 ERA and an amazing 0.98 WHIP in 115.1 home innings. He came within one out of getting credited with a Quality Start in Game #1, as he allowed 3 runs in 5.2 innings. He is backed by a stellar bullpen that is now adequately rested, thanks to Rueter?s fine effort last night.
