Yesterday Iraqi television gave us another Saddam Video .. this time he was meeting with his two brutal sons. Iraqi officials say the video was recent. No way.
If you saw this video from yesterday you would note that Saddam and his two thug-sons looked in excellent health. American intelligence official are certain that these three butchers were in that bunker that was attacked on March 19th. We?ve also heard that there is relative certainty that at least one son was killed.
If Saddam Hussein is dead, then who?s running the show? Sorry, can?t tell you. But I can tell you what they?re thinking. They?re thinking that if the Iraqi regime falls their fate is, at best, unpleasant. Their choices are to be (a) killed by Iraqis, (b) Killed by coalition forces, or (c) Captured, tried for war crimes and jailed. The only way the Iraqi leaders who remain can survive is to manipulate this war in hopes of getting a cease fire and a withdrawal of coalition forces. The only way they are going to have enough time to do this is if the Iraqi people are convinced that Saddam is still alive. Once the Iraqi people realize that Saddam is taking the eternal desert sand nap they will rise against those who supported and enabled him .. and it will be ugly indeed.
Now ? noodle this one out. It is so critically important that the Iraqi people think that Saddam is alive. Their lives depend on it. Understanding this, why don?t they do something that would prove conclusively that Saddam survived the initial attack? That video yesterday had Saddam sitting at a table. All they had to do is put a current issue of the Baghdad Daily Blast right there on the table with Saddam. There ? today?s paper ? that proves he?s alive. The mere fact that the remaining Iraqi despots don?t take such a simple step is proof enough that Saddam is food for worms ? or, at the very least, gravely injured.
