Any guitar players in the house?

My daughter wants an electric guitar for Christmas. She's 13 and LEFT handed.

I have no idea if this is just a passing interest or if she will stick with it, but I need some advice as to what to buy her.

Recommend me a guitar and amp, keep it under $500 for the pair if you can. Links to where I can buy online would be appreciated as well.

Some of those package deals look like they may be what I need. I wonder if I can get them to put a left handed guitar in those packages?

Or, is a left handed guitar simply just a regular guitar strung upside down?
