When it rains it pours around here. Son is a senior and plays center on high school team. 2 weeks ago he got hit wrong and tore his MCL. (Found out thru MRI) He missed the final game of the season and the 1st playoff game. They won the playoff so they advance and play this weekend. He is chomping to get back in there and here is where the problem lies. Him and the trainer think he might be able to play the next game with a knee brace and having it wrapped up. The trainer will call the DR and try to get him released to try practice tommorow. He says it feels like a bad bruise now and I have seen him favor the leg some.

My main concern is him messing up his knee even more and it bothering him later in life. My vote is to not let him play even though I know how much it means to him. But my vote dont count because he just turned 18 and I cant stop him. Hell they wouldnt even give us the results of his initial x-ray because of his age. Wife was extremely pissed but thats another story. Nudging him in the right direction is another matter though.

Can anyone tell me some of the risks involved by him playing?? Will a knee brace reduce the risk? Is there anything else that can be done to reduse the risk.

5 yrs ago he broke his pinky and the Dr told him he couldnt play anymore that year. His eyes started to tear up so when we got home we sat down and talked about it. I told him if he wanted to continue to play we would wrap it up good but he should be prepared to experience some awful pain if the bone slipped out of place from where it had been set. He said ok so I let him do it. He made it thru the season with no problems.

I just need to know what to tell him what he might expect if he goes thru with this.

I doubt the doctor will release him. Lots of liability there.

You didn't mention how bad the tear is? IF it's a grade I injury, he would be pushing it to get back that quickly, and grade II and grade III injuries are worse than that.

Bubba Franks, who plays for the Packers, tore his MCL over a month ago, and he's still not back in the lineup.

Bubbas:

If its an isolated Grade III tear without ACL damage then playing could certainly lead to further injury. If he had torn the ACL as well, he could play.

Thanks for the reply...Its a grade III tear.

no way he should be playing then. The doctor won't release him, so you probably won't have anything to worry about. Sorry about the injury, I know that's got to be terribly frustrating for him.

He went to practice today..(no contact) with his leg taped up. He said he was able to cut and run because his leg was taped so much. The trainer has a call in to his Dr to get him released. Im gonna wait till I hear what the Dr does before I have a talk with him.

Franky...He plays for Union Grove Broncos. They are in Division 3. Next game is Sat against Greendale.

We will defiantly hoist a few if they make it to Cam Randall. I am only 1.5 hrs from madison. :mj14:
