Get a Plasma. LCD has a low FPS and can cause the image to blur-unless you are old and do not know the difference, do not purchase an LCD. LED is the same.

Plasma is best for optimal viewing. Don't buy smart TV. Get a smart Blu-ray. Easier to upgrade when new features come out. 3-D TV is gay. No go.

Do not lay a plasma on it's side in transport. Only standing straight up. If you can, go to a Sams club or Costco and go look at their flat screen demos and see what I mean when they are all displayed side by side. Best buy too.

Lastly, you should never ever pay more than 12 bucks for an HDMI cable.

Another plasma fan, we have a plasma, LCD, LED. Regardless of the refresh rate I still see image lag/blur with LCD/LED, especially with sports.

Pros of Plasma: Cheaper, Better picture, Better viewing radius

Cons: Heavier (non-issue with proper mount)

Imaginary Cons: Image burn-in....just don't leave it on the same channel for hours on end or on a video game for long periods of time

Do not make your choice on how they look on the floor. Places like best buy have the settings tweaked to ranges you wouldn't use to sell what they feel like selling at the moment.

www.avsforum.com can be a great resource, however I will caution you that they can get way too in depth and confuse you even more.

I've found user reviews on places like best buy to be very reliable. You can't go wrong with buying at a place like Sam's or Costco for their return policy.

I have 2 LCD's and a Plasma. Like them both. The picture is in the eye of the beholder. You need to view both a number of times in different settings and see which looks better to you and is in your price range. No bluring at all watching any sport on my Sony LCD's. Take Saints advice and go to avsforum and do some research. Very good resource.

Like I said before, there ate peole here who don't know what FPS is (refresh rate...).

I strongly recommend that you go to the store and compare them side by side plasma and LCD and even speak to the employees in the electronics department and get their opinion. Let us know what you end up with I am interested to see what you purchase.*

I have Plasma, LCD and LED.

My Plasma has already image burned. People can say what they want but I see it everyday when we power it down or the bottom right corner is dark. Will never buy Plasma again. My channel viewing should not be dictated to possible image burn issues. If I want to leave it on 1 channel then I should be able to without the worry. I can also cook an Egg on the damn thing. The heat it gives off is pretty intense.

My LCD has worked fine. Excellent picture. I did have a capacitor issue which I fixed myself. Other than that it worked fine.

My LED though is off the charts. Best picture I have seen Period. 55" Samsung. 1.25 inches thick. Many have commented on the picture when they see it in HD. Watching Wild Russia on it is amazing. It is like you are there.

All of them are Samsung. It's all a matter of opinion I guess. I do not game on my TV's.

Don't think you can go wrong no matter what you purchase. It just a matter of choice. No matter what you buy today there will be something better tomorrow. Nature of the beast.

One thing I have noticed is that your Cable company makes a difference as well. Up North I have Comcast. Down South I have Mediacom. Mediacom sucks. No VS's, No NFL Network, No MLB Network. Nothing. Worst fucking cable company on earth IMO.

By the way Joker is correct on the image blur. It will occur in the non Plasma TV's. To me it is very minimal and only occurs occasionally. Hardly noticeable. It is like a chip in a Granite counter. You go years without noticing it and then when you see it, you see it all the time. That still does not take away from how great my picture quality is though. It does not bother me one bit. Like I said it is hardly noticeable when it occurs and that is not very often.

I do think other factors effect your tv as well. Lighting etc. Where you display your TV can make a difference. I seem to have a better picture with some lighting involved.

Another thing is the sound. You will need some type of surround sound or speaker setup to enhance the sound. Sound on nearly all new TV's is horrible at best.

In the end it will be your eyes that make the purchase. We all see things differently. What looks great to me, may not to others.

As I said before... No matter what you buy I don't think you can go wrong.

Look, here's the most important thing you will read in this thread:

Regardless of what you go with, chances are you are going to be thrilled with it. I spent hours upon hours researching my plasma, and I'm thrilled with it.

Then, I had kids, I researched my LED and LCD for about 10 minutes, and I have been just as happy.

Don't wreck your brain, you will be pleased with whatever you go with.
