I'm heading to South Bend in a couple weeks with a buddy of mine to watch the ND/Louisville game.

We wanted to take a road trip to watch some college bball and party in a college town. It's not too far from Milwaukee so we thought it'd be fun to just get away for a day or two.

I was looking into hotels and I think we're going to stay at Magnuson Grand Hotel since it's pretty cheap and seems to be in the middle of a good amount of bars.

Anyways...seeing if any MJer's have any advice on South Bend and the bars/restaurants there. Also, if there is an establishment that shuttles people to the Joyce Center, or if there is a good parking lot/place, that information would be helpful too.

Please don't say I need to see Lennay or Manti Te'o either

Thanks! :0074

never stayed when going there for a football or b-ball game. Joyce center is an underrated venue for college hoops and should be jumping for that game. You'll have a good time. If you aren't dead set on staying there and doing the college bar scene, look into Blue Chip casino a little drive away for your accomodations.

Thanks Mr. P

We thought about hitting up a casino on the way back. I didn't know about that one...

My buddy has been to the Horseshoe in Hammond, just outside of Chicago and said that was decent.

yikes - if he thinks the Horseshoe is decent, he would consider BlueChip a god-send.

Went to horseshoe a couple months ago lost money at craps won a lot at blackjack, it's decent but nothing spectacular about it...kind of low end, but when you win, we'll it gets a little bump.

holy shit. I think you'd find it hard to ever find a better game to see live than that one.

YES!!! What a game indeed!

We were laughing at all the people leaving with a minute left when it was like a 7 point game.

Definitely on of the most memorable games I've been to in my life.

We took your advice Mr. Poon...left Milwaukee at about 830 and arrived at the Blue Chip Casino at about 11-1130. Hit the blackjack table up for about an hour and profitted about $250 between us.

Sat down at the sports bar for lunch (really neat, entire wall of TVs with probably 6 different games) and watched the Wisconsin game...sweet ending!!!

Also we had a big bet on George Washington against Butler and they backdoored a cover and a 2nd half cover, so we were riding high.

We sat down at the Ultimate Hold 'Em table and played there for a while. We said we'd leave at 5 and we were just about even and we played our last hand. I got dealt KK and turn and rivered a full house for a huge payout. We ended up walking outta there up like $700! At this point we felt pretty much like this was our day.

Arrived in South Bend at 6, checked into the hotel, and headed to C.J.'s pub for some burgers...very good if you want a nice burger.

Got to the game at 830 and settled in for what would be one of the sickest games I've ever seen in person. Louisville had a bunch of chances to win...but just couldn't finish the job. The Joyce Center is pretty small, but it was super loud when ND made their several comebacks. We ended up not leaving the game until probably 1245. Let me tell you...we needed a drink. We played some catch up and closed down the bar at 3 AM.

Only regret is not getting to see more of the campus and architecture, but we ran out of time and we were looking to just get home being hungover and tired.

All in all...we had a blast and would go back again. It was a South "Bender" for sure.
