Minor League outfielder Nick Gorneault will be in uniform tonight in Baltimore for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

He is replacing Bench-Player Shea Hillenbrand, who will be Designated For Assignment probably while you are reading this.

Nick is 28 and had an OPS of 915 in 130 AAA Games in 2005.

Nick was the Angels' top outfield prospect prior to their Terry Evans acquisition.
Gorneault will see some playing time at some point between tonight and the return of Maicer Izturis and/or the acquisition of a post-Hillenbrand player on the 25-Man Roster.

Hitting:

Gorneault can absolutely punish baseballs when he?s on. His 38.5 XBH% makes him perhaps the single biggest power threat among Angels? farmhands. Like every young power hitter, Gorneault strikes out a ton and doesn?t walk enough (though he has shown some improvement in the latter as he has advanced). Scouts say Gorneault?s swing is a bit unorthodox, leading to the occasional extended slump when he loses his mechanics.

Defense/Baserunning:

Gorneault?s big and slow, but he moves around well enough at the corner outfield positions. Not a defensive liability, but not someone you?d be thrilled about playing in the field everyday.

Outlook:

Considered by many to be the Angels? top outfield prospect, but that isn?t saying a whole lot. Will get his first real shot at AAA this season where he?ll need to show improved plate discipline if he hopes to get on the Angels radar (and continuing to tear the cover off the ball wouldn't hurt, either). Right now, best case scenario, Gorneault becomes a useful fifth outfielder in the Majors. ETA: 2007
