as far as i can tell miami players have been paid about 45,000 per point scored. they may hit 75 before the game is over but then again they may hit 60. this ugly game has to be a reason to watch the amc network.

I used to love it in the 80's and early 90's.
I remember in the mid-90's when Jordan left, and they moved the 3-point line closer and there were a bunch of new "stars", it wasn't nearly as good. I learned to appreciate the Rockets, but they just benefitted from a short 3-point line and Hakeem travelling on almost every play. I despise Hakeem.
The league went from offense to defense, which is fine, but it also went from good offensive players to bad ones.
Everyone wants to dunk and no one wants to learn how to shoot the ball. Hell, they advertise during free throws now.
I still watched up until a couple years ago. Now I just watch the playoffs. Pretty sad.
The refs are horrible, I'm sure there are some conspiracies going on in 7-game series as well. Maybe there always have.
Players, coaches, and owners are even greedier than they used to be. Players are coming out of high school as good athletes, but not many are good NBA players.
Its become nothing but glorifed pick up games with a bunch of athletic morons running up and down the court.
Players are holding and grabbing rather than playing good defense. Players are flopping and flailing rather than playing the game and trying to make the shot or block a shot.
Something should be done, but the assholes are making so much money, why should they stop?
If we, the fans, would just boycott a season, then we'd get results. I've never been to an NBA game. I really don't care about going to one. All fans should just take one season off. If nothing else, watch it on tv, but don't attend the game.
Let them play in empty arenas and see if they change. If they don't change, then **** 'em. Let them go work for $10 an hour.

TD you have some good points, nice post ...

I always thought fans could control ticket prcies, esp. after strikes, by staying away, but they sucker and drop the big $$$ to pay these guys ...

kids dont work on game as much, just play games for aau slimes, this has hurt kids for last decade or so and trickles into nba every year ...

take care

i just get tired of the scowling at refs after every call and the lack of teamwork that seems so pervasive in the sport. i may be wrong but there needs to be some changes in the game or they will lose viewers.

I know I was on a rant, but I do feel strongly about it, and you both make good points. As much as it seems like they may "lose viewers", they never seem to. I guess they are appealing to some, me included in the playoffs, but thats almost by default.
To me, success in the NBA is like Jordan. He had a lot of talent, as so many do today. I am referring mainly to athleticism. And with that, he also had the heart and desire that Magic and Bird had. That same work ethic they both had. Man, that is a deadly combination. Imagine Bird or Magic with great athleticism. Thats what Jordan was.
That is what the league is missing.
The NBA can be good at times but overall it really isn't very good anymore. And, its a shame.

i can tell you right now that if det wasnt in the playoffs, id be watching baseball 10x over the nba. since im a fan, it draws me to watch the games. i think i maybe caught 1 game of the western conference finals. if det loses tomorrow night, ill only be watching the finals if i make a bet, or its game 7. im really disapointed in the nba these days, and this miami detroit series is disgusting.

in that sense, lets go mets!! the nl east is the best division in baseball right now.

I've hated the NBA for the last 10 years it seems. I live in southern California and hate the f***in Lakers. This past season was the greatest in my history of watching the NBA for the simple reason that the Lakers were God awful.

But in general, the NBA has been pathetic for the past 8-10 years. Like probably many others, I only watch because I have action on the games.

One of my players went to a sonics' practice a few years ago when George Karl was graciously sponsoring summer programs and invited kids in it to watch his own team practice. Our player, who made MVP in State, came back and said, "Man, coach, you would not believe what a punk Gary Payton was. He wasn't even injured and refused to suit up and sat in end zone cutting down his teamates the entire time. It was pathetic."

Now that's not what all NBA players are like, mind you. TD is all class and many others ... Nowadys, however, the thugs get more ink than the spiritual--it's tabloid mentaility. So when HS kids see others hop to NBA with little skills, and NO life skills, and get wheelbarrows full of $$$, then of course the league will slowly deteriorate ...

Listen to Magic and Barkley discuss this exact subject sometime: no one paying dues, and not being mentally mature (Magic rode a dump truck every summer with his pops and hauled rubbish paving his work ethic)... This easy life and non due paying and lack of respect is what causes people to ultimatelty get turned off. I think Stern looked the other way for a long time and was fine with 18 y-o's coming into league and languishing on benches or being waived into CBA then finding oblivion soon after. He had no code nor problem with what was best for kids. But recent public backlash has finally bit the haughty commish in ass and he's dogpaddling to the 20+ plateau.

I know i'm old school. I grew up with west, frazier, oscar, unseld, cowens, et. al, getting peanuts to play. One time I recall watching a Pacer game where a friggin' Indy 500 car sound FX blared seemingly the entire game--and I mean during actual live play. It made me wonder what the hell Jerry West woulda thought had he been time warped into that carnival.

Bird Fydrich had one of the greatest quotes I've ever seen, summing up the bridge from one era to another. "Pinball used to be good. Five balls for a quarter, and it didn't take that many points to win a free game. Then it became three balls for a quarter and you needed a million points. Then came Pac-Man and all that crap. Do good and you only get to put your initials up next to your score. It ain't what it used to be. Nothing in life matches up to anything anymore."

I don't want to sound too cynical, b/c whatever era you are raised in will be your golden years, that's just the cycle of life. (What if parents in '56 discovered their kids were flocking to Jean Simmons instead of Elvis?) But it's sad today to think kids grow up seeing things in the press or on the field that kids grew up 25 years ago knowing were wrong, and would've been shocked beyond words to have witnessed---things that have presently become commonplace.

I'm just glad that people agree with me, for a change.
One thing I hate is the fact that people are playing the race card on the age thing. I'm sick of hearing about race in sports unless we can say it about everything. (meaning, both sides)

Supposedly its racial to make players wait until they are 20 to play in the NBA, since most of the league is black. But, of course, its not racial that most players ARE black. Where are the white players?
In the NFL, we have to make sure there are enough black coaches. Where the hell are the white players? Why is that not a problem? And the few white players are mostly lineman, who get no glory.
What I'm saying is that the double standard is absurd.
By the way, I love sports, mainly football and basketball and used to really want to be just like most of the players growing up. I can't look up to many athletes today. Most of them are pieces of shit who happen to play a sport I love.
Its sad...very sad. Both sports are being ruined.

One of the biggest reasons I still do watch NBA games is the announcers. I love Marv Albert and Bill Walton.

Also, I grew up watching and admiring guys like Magic and Bird and Jordan. McHale and Worthy. Those are guys you can look up to. There are very, very few players like that today.
