Anyone else have Philly tonight?

Another great example of a manager losing the game for his team. Hamels threw 110 pitches through 7. Absolutely no reason for him to start the 8th. But of course Manuel trots him out there and he gives up a leadoff double. Does he take him out then? Nah. Because Fielder is up. And you know you always gotta stick with the lefty/lefty matchup! Nevermind the fact that the guy has absolutely NOTHING left, by all means leave him out there to give up Fielder's 2nd HR of the game.

Game over. Unless of course they decide to bring in Gagne. :mj07:

Hey Glenn. I was also watching the game and could not believe Manuel left him in.

With 1st base open, you can not give Fielder anything close to hit.

Yeah, what is the worse decision there: leaving Hamels in to start to inning, leaving him in to pitch to Prince, or just pitching to the Big Vegetarian at all.

I am sure the only thing talked about tomorrow on Philly sports radio will be the Flyers, so nobody will notice this gaffe! :142smilie

Yeah right!

We'll see if Turnbow can close this one out.:scared

One on, One out. Utley on deck; Howard in the hole. :0corn

I am an the Brewers tonight and it is better to not watch.

Agreed. You can't let Fielder beat you like that. Although it's hard for me to blame Hamels. He was around 120 pitches at the time he gave up the homer to Fielder. I'm guessing "locating" the ball at that point was probably not a very easy thing to do.

Also, look at the top of the 8th leadoff double but then gets caught stealing with the meat of the order coming up.

Yeah, that one was hard to get over too. The majority of my bets last year were on the first 5 innings because of bad bullpens and boneheaded managerial decisions like these! :142smilie

Wow. Turnbow actually recorded a save?!?! Amazing. Although you have to thank Manuel for making another terrible decision there. Tying run at 3rd with one out and he leaves Werth in the game. Unreal. All you need is a guy at the plate who can put the ball in play, but you choose to stick with the guy who strikes out 20% of the time. Briliant!

Was on Phillies for 2 units and was horrified to see Hammels out their in the 8th. Way to burn the win and Hammels so early in the season....

I just don't understand it. Why would you pitch your ace so long with so many pitches so early in the season?

I really think Manuels days are numbered in Philly, it's only a matter of them not making the playoffs and he's out.

I guarantee it's because Fielder was coming up in the 8th. Managers are OBSESSED with the righty/righty, lefty/lefty matchups. Sure, he should have realized his pitcher was spent and gotten him out of there. But he was probably thinking that he would rather have his tired ace out there, facing another lefty, then go to the pen.

I'm not saying for one second I agree with it. It was absolutely the wrong move to make. I'm just saying I think that's why he made the decision he did.

If he doesn't have a Lefty in the pen he trusts(Romero), then he could've just walked Fielder.

I think the concensus here is that Manuel's an idiot, and he cost us money LOL

:mj07: Agreed. His decisions tonight cost a lot of people money.

And this is the last time I'll try to step into Charlie Manuel's twisted brain, I promise, but he may not have wanted to walk Fielder because it would have put the go-ahead run on 1st with nobody out.

Still, Hamels shouldn't have been out there. Oh well... I'm not exactly surprised by these managerial decisions anymore. :142smilie
