Have had pretty much the standard 4 chair/table with umbrella cast iron patio set outside since September. Never had a problem with it. Its been outside in the 3 month deluge we had here in DC and never had a problem. On the 4th we had people over and it covers you in black dust whenever you sit on the chairs or rub against the table. I tried wiping it all down, but it doesnt seem to help. I never figured we would have a problem with it, like I said its been outside in the rain and its not like weve had rivers of black dust coming off of it, in fact, I havent seen that once.

Anyone else have this problem? Dont know if I have to buy like a clear Krylon-type paint to coat it with or what.

Guessing here: It sounds like the paint is starting to break down. You might want to get some spray paint and coat it again.

But I'm just a redneck from Kentucky where we spray paint our trucks when they start to rust!

About every other year, I brush mine down with a wire brush and then recoat it with a freah coat of paint. Just a good enamel spray paint in a can is great.;)

get a good rusty primer and prime them before you spray them with the color. They will last several years longer if you do that.
They turn out looking nicer too.

its obvious we are all dying to have the upcoming NFL and NCAA football season begin... :D which is why patio furniture is getting so much run in the forum...

there is just not much happening in sports these days except the splendid run to the championship by the softball women...:Yep:
