Yes I know this question has probably been asked over 100 times, but I guess I will ask again:

Has anyone out there ever "hit" one of those long Future Bets? As you can see (in the Off the Wall Forum) I have some longshot picks for the Aussy Open (101-1....71-1.....51-1, etc.). I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever had a 101-1 (or higher) odds payoff:shrug:

Sure it's happened to somebody?

Kickserv,
It wasn't a futures bet, but back in Sept I took a chance on a 10 team parlay with 20 bucks riding on it. Would have paid off 14k but the Iowa game came out right on the 4 point line so it paid off 6k. That was the biggest longshot I ever had.

I was living in Portland Oregon and use to play the greyhounds quite regular. I remember like yesterday because the odds were so unreal, it happened on July 4th 1992 for a one dollar wager you could play what they called the Bet 9. It was a bet where you pick 9 dogs in races 3-12 to finish first or second it was payed off daily so there was no carry over pool. I correctly picked 8 of 9 and my one dollar turned into a 5764 dollar winner I was the only ticket holder. By the way I was a trainer at that track and 2 of the dogs were mine they were 16 to 1 he ran second and the other was 48 to 1 she also ran second ;)

Who could have figured incidently I am not allowed to train dogs anymore LOL

Back in the days when I was an Apprentice for a large research and development company I was lucky enough to be entertained at a race meeting for horses. Although not lucky that day, the bug of betting bit once more (after not betting for 2 years).

I received a christmas bonus for the research and report that I had carried out as part of my end of year exam.

I placed two ?100 singles and a ?50 double on two horses anti post (futures) for the Cheltenham festival to be run three months later.

The two horses were priced at the time I placed the bet, 66/1 and 50/1. The first horse won and the second horse finished second beaten 1.5 lengths. The second horse finished so fast that it was in front a few strides after the pay stick.

Although I won ?6,450, which I used as a down payment on my first home, if both had won the profit would have been ?182,400

A very nice return that would have set me up for life. At that time the average wage was about ?10,000 per year.

On the course!
We had a dog track about 40 miles from my house. It was a fairly new sport up here, but I got hooked fast enough.

One Father's Day about 14 years ago, they had Superfectas in all 15 races. I made my usual wagers, and put a $2 straight SF on my last four digits in my phone number at that time (4236)

It was uneventful until the 14 race. I watched the race unfold, and my handicapped tickets got whacked when two longshots came home. I noticed by the colors, that they where 4 and 2.

I watched the replay, and it came in 4-2-3-5......ONE DOG AWAY! Man, was I hot. But, I got to thinking:

Those first two mutts were two of the worst odds on the board. I was praying for an "Any" to come up in the last spot. It was a photo finish to boot, so I needed to wait.

Eventully, the tote read 4-2-3-A and I had the only winning ticket!

It paid out $2700 on a 2 ticket. I was standing at the IRS window filling out forms, and noticed the next race was about to start. I hadn't made a wager, and forgot what I had handicapped, so I just said, "Gimmie another $2 4-2-3-6"

The race was going on while the girl was paying me, and I saw it on the monitor. "Holy horse shit!" It ended the exact same way! 4-2-3-5. Once again, the top dog was a little pricey, but the favorite was in the mix as well. I waited for the outcome, and someone had the exact order. That would have been really sweet!

The next year, on Father's Day again, I hit another SF, but this one was handicapped. It paid around $2000 also, but made me feel better, because I handicapped it. Those are the only two big bets I ever hit at the dogs.

Horses:

I never went to a horse race......track too far from home. My best friend and I where going to Chicago to see the U2 tour. (The Achtung Baby release.) He said we should go to Sportsman's Park before the concert, and make a day of it. I said why not?

Well, I don't know shit about horses, and just played the tote board all day. You know.....pick a 4-1 or 5-1 shot to win and place....Simple shit. I was holding my own, and up a few bucks when I took a shot on the second to last race. I actually looked at the program, and handicapped it like a dog race! (I have since found out that this doesn't work!)

I saw two horses that seemed to me to be faster out of the gate than the rest. They were the two longets shots on the board! I figured if one of them could win, I would get a nice payday. I also hade the bright idea of wheeling each horse to finish second with the field! This was a pricey wager, but we were leaving soon.

I put $10 on each to win, and did the wheel for two or three bucks...I don't remember.

Well, the race went of and the odds stayed tall! One of my horses was off like a shot! He led the whole damned race!.......Until the last few strides, when he got passed by another horse! I was pissed! "Man......I almost had the winner!"

But, I knew I had the exacta, and that had to pay nice, depending on who won. I didn't even notice the number on the horse that won, so I waited for the replay. It was another photo, because they were close, but it was clear to all, that the leader gave way by a neck.

The replay showed the final strides, and I said, "You gotta be fuking kidding me!" My buddy said, "What's wrong?"

"That horse that won........he was my other horse!"

So, I had the longest shot win at about 21-1, and the exacta at about 250-1!

I put a neat little $700+ in my pocket on that race. I told my buddy I was letting $200 snap on the last race.

I bet it on the nose of a 3-1 favorite, and he placed!

Still.......... a nice day at the track, and to this day, I tell everyone that I have never had a losing day at a horse track.:D

It was this past baseball season. I had put $50 on the Anaheim Angels to win the WS at 65-1. I had put my wager on them a couple of weeks before the season started. They truly made it an amazing season for me. Whoo hoo :D

jcjrbowl- talk about fawking weird!! Exact same day, July 4, 1992, I made a two trifecta wheels on the same race, one for six bucks and one for four bucks on a greyhound race at St. Croix Meadows in Hudson, WI. There was one combo that was on both tickets, and that one happened to come in. Each paid 583.50. The weirdest part of it is that the whole reason we were there was to watch a St. Croix-based dog named Vasaloppet run in a simulcasted stakes race earlier that day from Multnomah, which may be the Portland track you are referring to.

The Kentucky Derby of 2001. I had invested $60 in Pic 3s and had $24 one dollar trifecta tickets. I used Monarchos and Congaree as keys 1st and 2nd and 1st and 3rd and had 6 other horses to fill out the remaining slots. I decided to toss in a 50-1 longshot named Invisible Ink who had earned a huge Thorograph number about 3 starts back. In the stretch, its clear Monarchos is going to win and Congaree looks like a cinch for 2nd and Invisible Ink for third. I tell my ex-fiancee that I think the tri will pay around $1500 for a dollar. She had been pissed at me for going to the track part of the day. Then I see the order of finish: Invisible Ink at 50-1 noses out Congaree for second. The finish wire at Churchill is a bit in front of where the television cameras are so its hard to judge their photos. Then they make it official; the $2 tri pays over $13,000. I had it for only a buck but it still came out to over $6600.

While I enjoy betting sports, it can't compare to a big score at the track.

This happened 3 Sundays ago at a local simulcast outlet. I have been betting the dogs for many years and never bet "A" races for they are very hard to hit for me. Well Race 14 at Raynham rolls around and it is an "A" race and I am bored so I look over the program and decide to play a $2 trifecta with some long shots. I place a key 8 with the 2 6, a $2 wager. The 8 wins the race and the 2 and 6 dead heat for second and third. I get paid $900 ($897) to be exact on my $1 trifecta and I do not have to sign for it because it is 2 separate bets. That has to be the luckiest hit that I have ever had.

I hit an Exacta at the track once that paid $538. Two years ago I hit an 8-way parlay that paid 150-1, I only had $8 left in my account at the time and was pissed and thought I would just pick 8 games for the hell of it - they all won and I picked up $1200. No kidding.

Return Total: -147.32

Baltimore ended up winning the monday night game so Tennessee lost their last regular season game at home against....Yep the Cincinnati Bungles..............Hard to believe of all the teams the bungles cost me a hugh payday..........finny thing is going back to last year and this year its like the Bengals only have won like 4 out of 32 games and wouldnt you know it, one of those 4 cost me.........24,536 reasons to hate cincy

Also 2 years ago me and a friend split $1000 bet on Tennessee and where going to let it ride.......won the SB or lose $500 each
1st game Buffalo......w........remember the miracle kickoff return
2nd game Indy.........w........Killed the Colts and peyton
3rd game Jax............w.......beat the Jags for the 3rd time
4th game St.Louis...............down 16-0 in the 3rd quarter only to tie the game with like 3 minutes left having all the momentum and having the Rams in like a 3rd and 13 situation on their own 22 yrd line.....stop them here and they punt, we move the ball (we had the Ram def exhausted) down into FG range and kick the winning FG in the last minute.................but not this time...Warner throws a bomb to Issac Bruce while Jevon Kearse hits him and the Rams score a td.............We almost came back and score but Dyson was stopped at the 1yrd line.. $1000 ticket would have netted over $30,000.........we hedged about $5000 of it. We probably should have hedged more but we both really thought the Titans we going to beat the Rams...........

I think it was 1995, the Breeders Cup at Belmont, the year Cigar won the Classic on an off track, some of my friends (the Cleavers)and I went to Belmont and played the pick seven. 10 of us threw $60.00 each into the pool.

We singled Cigar in the Classic. As many of you know he won at very low odds. I'm standing at the finish line with my buds, smoking a Cigar when he crossed the finish line. Were jumpin up and down.

Most people around us probably thought we were nuts thinking wow the odds on won what these guys won $2.40? Got a check from the New York Racing Commision for about $26,000.00. We each took home about $2600.00 for our $50.00 investment.

The best part was waiting in the grandstands, absolutly bloto, for the track announcer to give us the payout as we had no idea how many winning tickets were out there. Guys were guessing between 10k and 150k.

He announces 26k and that 86 tickets had all seven picked correctly. That was very exciting. Had a very nice time in Manhattan that evening.

Back in the days when the pick six was launched in California, I was going to the track every day. I was part of a four man team that hit Pick Sixes for $102,000; $96,000; $52,000. It was 1980 or 1981. We used most of the money to back one of the guys in an unrelated business. Went toes up about 2 years later so never really saw too much of it. We continued to play for another year or so, but the big investor groups made it too hard to hit for any money.

Shortly after I turned 21 a few years ago I had a 3 day hot streak that was simply unbeleivable. I know now that it was a little more dumb luck then I realized at the time.
I placed 100 dollars in Caribsports on a Monday afternoon, in fact it was that night that Oakland played at Denver in a game they lost 24-21 on a last second field goal. Anyway I had a 7 team parlay hit that night off of 50 dollars. I picked Oakland @ Denver over 43 and Oakland +3.5, I beleive I had the Mavericks under @ the Clippers and the rest was all hockey unders. I just thought Hockey was a low scoring game so I would bet all unders. Anyway that hit so I placed a Parlay the next night on all hockey unders, I beleive it was a 4 teamer with a couple hundred dollars on it. I had already cashed out the rest of my winnings because I was so excited.
Anyway that Tuesday night I was updating scores on the internet and my parlay was good up until the last game. In that game they scored the 6th goal with about 10 seconds left, I thought my parlay was crashed but the next day I looked into my account and it read something like 1500 dollars, I looked back at my past results and I had under 6 in the last game and it was reduced to a push so I had actually hit a 3 team parlay. I thought what the hell, this was money i wasn't even counting on so that night I put 500 on a 6 teamer, all hockey unders once again and the son of a b**** hit. In three days I had accumlated apporoximately 26,000 dollars off of a 100 dollar deposit.
