If so, do you like it? I currently have DirectTv, and am looking to change. My wife says DTV is too expensive, and really wants to shop around between cable and Dish Network.

Looks like they work their receivers ALOT differently than DTV.

Would love and appreciate hearing thoughts/experiences.

Thanks

Do you have the NFL sunday ticket?

If you don't I would get cable.

I like dish network a lot. They have more high def channels than most cable companies...I would get it again.

No, Dish network is not crap. I don't think it any cheaper than directv. I would rather have cable, because is has more high def channels than dish network.

 Ah. I'm still rockin the old school non HD tv. HD options really not part of the equation for me.

And, from the pricing I've done, I'd be looking to save nearly half what I pay for DTV

DISH is the way to go for you if you don't have HDTV. I had DISH for almost 4 years, but when I got an HDTV, they did not offer any of the local channels in HD. They do have a large selection of national HD channels though.

They also offer the ESPN college packages which mean more to me than the NFL Ticket.

I switched to digital cable in August and have been very happy.

If DISH offered HD local, I would go back in a minute.

Thanks for the responses guys. I really appreciate them.

1 more though. The receivers...DTV lets me have a different receiver for each tv/room. Dish is saying that I can use 1 receiver for 2 tvs? I get the dual LNB stuff, but not sure how having 1 receiver for 2 seperate rooms works:shrug:

Vinnie, I prefer College football over NFL, and my wife prefers that if I gamble, I'm not glued to television:142smilie :mj07: :com:

Drew, any money you save, you should definitely put that towards upgrading to HDTV. Its like the difference in 8 tracks and CDs, especially if you watch a lot of sports and movies, hell anything, you will catch yourself watching a show in HD just for the picture. Good luck!

Since I am single and no known dependents, I will even list you as a beneficiary:mj07:

Thanks for your concern in advance

As far as high def, like dunclock says it is worth the investment. Especially if you watch a lot of sports.

I guess different areas offer different packages, but when I was living in the hills of Colorado they offered all local channels in high def plus a lot of others. I had about 30 high def channels and that is a lot more than I have now with cable.

Good luck!

Verizon FIOS is the way to go, problem is not everyone can get it.

layin`...a friend of mine is fairly high up the ladder at verizon....he knows i`m not happy with comcast, and told me that they are in the process of wiring my county as we speak....

he said it`s much better than comcast and that when they hit my neighborhood,to call him and he`d set me up...

how highly would you rate verizon cable?....

thanks...

GW, it's the best. I've had everything... Dish, Direct, Comcast although I will say that for just the HD that Voom was my favorite. They went out of bus and sold some of their original channels to Dish. So far I've been very impressed with Fios. The reason I will never go with a satellite over it is because of the On Demand. I know Comcast has it(but they are horrible and I think their HD is the worst of the bunch). I would rate my first year with Fios as an A+.

thanks,bud...i`ve had problems using their grid to purchase ppv`s in the past(comcast, that is)........having to call their service number and have it manually ordered...missing the beginning of some show`s due to being put on hold...

if there are a large number of mma/boxing ppv`s that i want to see,and my bill goes over a certain limit, they won`t process it without a credit card pymt......

this from a guy that`s never had a late payment in my 20+ years of cable viewership....that pisses me off...

my problem is that i wired 7 t.v.`s to cable in my house....and i`m not sure whether i`ll have to rewire the house for verizon.......

thanks again for the info....i`m trying to get an angle on the "stacked" ufc card saturday night....so many high profile, competitive fights....

I know it's pretty good, but really not in our budget right now. I figure I'll get one within the next two years, unless I hit a monster parlay, but for now the old 36-incher is just fine. We've got a few things we're trying to accompolish financially right now, and her initial thought was to cancel satellite all together:nono: :142smilie :mj07: :nono:

She's really trying to get me to stop gambling, but I've been brining in a few extra hundred bucks every couple of weeks, so she really isn't flying that flag to the top just yet.

Thanks for all the info guys. Guess I'll give ole Dish Network a call this weekend

I would agree with all of the posts so far. I'm a Directv person, but I know two people with Dish, one loves it and one hates it. The latter person has the cheapie master-slave arrangement with one central master box and a slaved box with UHF remote. It stinks. She also hates the clunky, hard to use on-screen menus. The other guy has the expensive HD box, which has a different on-screen menu look and interface. If you get Dish, look into that set up, not the other one.
