Going to add to this as I look at the games.
Nothing stands out but you never know.
Martinez-Vanden Hurk
Pedro a solid spring in 2 appearances.
--1-8 BB-K in 9 with 2.00 era.
VHurk mediocre in tons of spring work.
A better "deal" yesterday as Mets did better work vs L last year and Johann is a little better than Pedro at this stage. Runline costs, too, but Mets may be a good runline club this year.
I'll take a win. Added a last-second parlay with Peavy for +150. Glad to have it at that.
Backe-Young
Backe's had a bad spring and was totally nothing special in '07 (hurt to start '07).
Young gave up several big flies in spring (as had Peavy) but kept the hits, walks and era down. Dominant mid-season last year but started '07 slowly.
Price is gross, aye? Padresticks are still schticks while 'Stros look solid at 3,4,5 (Berkman,Lee,Tejada). With this line, you need to win this in like 68% of the known universes to break even. That's high. Actually, I guess you'd just need it in the one that you're in.
Cain-Lowe
Cain gave up the hits and runs in spring but had a solid BB-K.
Lowe had similar numbers with more HR's allowed and a few more BB's too.
Cain may be the Giants best SP this year--Lincecum probably needs more experience. Makes this price a turn-off. Under at 8.5 maybe but pass at 7.5. G-Men should play under lots this year. Would try Cain but will maybe be patient enough to see a Giants run before backing them.
Garland-Bonser
Garland decent in 4 spring starts. Was solid until the final third of '07.
Bonser was decent in 4 as well, numbers slightly worse than Garland's. Nothing special in '07 though he began better than he finished.
This looks like anybody's game. Might try the Twinkies but price isn't great. Angels still the better team but couldn't hit on road last year.
Over 9 is a thought but "decent" springs by SP's and their solid bullpens say nah. Danley should ump; no real effect there if memory serves.
Matsuzak-Blanton.
Same matchup as season opener in Japan.
Dice-K had a so-so spring and was okay in the opener though wild.
Blanton had a decent spring and was better than D-K in the opener.
Sox are tempting seeing as they're 30-cents cheaper than in Japan. Guess the oddsmakers were giving D-K a hefty edge over there. Under 8.5 if I had a good ump going. Blanton maybe the better SP but I'm still skeptical about the A's hitting, despite the decent early production. Tempting but I'll probably wait for something better.
Padilla-Felix
Padilla had a decent though unspectacular spring. Was pretty bad in '07 until coming back off the DL late where he was much better.
Felix gave up the hits and a bunch of homers this spring (6 in 20.1 IP) but walked only 2 while striking out 19. Solid in '07, he's probably still 4 or 5 years away from his prime, assuming that he doesn't blow his arm out.
I say that 2 of every 3 universes the M's take this game. I'm not expecting much from the Rangers offense or Padilla this season. Line makes this an even proposition. Tempting to maybe parlay with a rather certain NBA moneyline or something (whatever that might be--Pistons, Celtics or Spurs maybe); would pay slightly better than even money with a -300. Dunno...Pistons and Celtics need no points and are on the road. Spurs will likely be too expensive. Side here looks promising though. Runline at +118 could play.
Halladay-Wang
Halladay had a decent spring but a losing record. Rock-solid in '07 and perpetually.
Wang was hit pretty hard this spring (8.04 era in 5 starts). Was solid most of '07--very streaky.
Crap...I wish they played this, already, yesterday. Would've saved my money. Now with the Jays up from the +135-range to over +150 I don't know how I'll contain myself. Still think the Yanks near 60% makes sense, but at least with a +150 I wouldn't feel like I'm shafting myself. Know who I'm rooting for, anyways...why push it? Maybe 'cause it could happen. curse thee, Yankee scum. There. See if that works. If it does I might stick with it all year.
Plays pending and unlikely.
Already need the Mets.
Time for beer #1--that's my reward for doing this. Probably took an hour and change.
Only 2 in the fridge:scared why is life not perfect?
