Not sure if they are technically called projection tvs since that could cover any number of sizes of tv but I'm talking about those little box/projectors you buy and can hang from the ceiling or put them on a coffee table. I was checking them out on ebay and wondered if mostly they were pieces of crap. Need something for a rec room environment, that doesnt have to be top notch or expensive, just though something that could be ceiling mounted might be nice and out of the way. Anything specifically to look for?

We have one for our business. It is what we use at trade shows to project our product for demonstrations. I want to say we spent about $3500-4500 on ebay for ours 4-5 years ago. Of course, they are much cheaper now.

I have used it to watch a couple of movies, and it is great! Very crisp picture as long as your wall is flat and a light color. I don't use a screen when doing this. It can really give you a movie theater experience. I think the largest I have watched a DVD was at least 10' diagonally.

Ours is an InFocus unit. I don't know the model. I'll check our records to see exactly what we paid. That was a long time ago.;) I could be way off on my estimate above.

Years ago, 7 or so I had a Panasonic. (Break up with Fiance, she got the TV! LOL!!)

But we had and it was great! We happened to have a square wall, that was angled that was perfect for viewing (I am bad at explaining it with words but trust me it was cool!) so the entire screen was about 8' x 8' and was awesome. When hooked up with SRS, it was like being in the movies.

I wil tell you what, FB games were awesome as they were life size on the thing, and most memorable was watching Riddick Bowe, and Evander Holyfield get after it on the screen. Just awesome for boxing!!

Overall, loved it! But the room must be very dark, very nice picture if blacked out in the room!

LOL! The onbly setback is when company is over, or you have some family with kids over, the ask to go down and watch the TV, and the TV Channel Lock wasn't on, those Porn channels really freak the kids out when it is HUGE!!! Not too mention explaining the descrambler to people after the fact! :nono:
