Littleton will play in bowl

By Kevin Turbeville
Sun staff writer

LAFAYETTE, La. ? Junior linebacker Chris Littleton will play in tonight?s New Orleans Bowl game, Arkansas State University athletic officials announced Monday.
Littleton, 22, was arrested Saturday night on a citation for alleged battery of a police officer and resisting an officer after an incident on one of the team?s tour buses. He was released on bond Sunday.
In a statement released by the university, head football coach Steve Roberts said in ASU?s assessment of the situation, Littleton did not act inappropriately.
?We are aware of the situation with Chris Littleton and have conducted our own investigation and are continuing to do so,? Roberts said in an interview with reporters Monday morning. ?I have a very stern record and strict record of discipline. ... At this time I have to do what is fair to every individual involved and especially Chris Littleton.
?So at this time he is still on track to play. Again, a misdemeanor charge obviously to us is very serious, but again, through our investigation and the information that we received, which I will not comment on, I have to do what is right for our family.?
Littleton (5-11, 205) has started the last five games at outside linebacker. He ranks eighth on the team with 35 total tackles in 10 games, including four behind the line of scrimmage.
According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff?s Office daily booking report, Littleton was arrested for causing a disturbance on a coach bus. The report said Littleton did not obey officers? commands when they entered the bus. Officers were escorting Littleton off the bus, according to the report, when Littleton allegedly elbowed an officer, causing him to drop his Taser gun.
In ASU?s statement Director of Athletics Dean Lee said an internal investigation has been conducted with student-athletes, ASU personnel and other individuals.
?At this time Chris will continue to be a part of our football program,? Lee said in the statement. ?He is a valued member of our program and has proven himself to be a leader and a great competitor.?
Lee, Roberts and Littleton will have no further comment on the situation, the statement said.
?We brought 100 guys out here, and we?re talking about one, which isn?t fair,? Roberts said. ?We?ve had a lot of positive things to talk about, and that?s what we will continue to focus on.?
Littleton was dismissed from the ASU football team in August 2004 for a violation of team rules. He was reinstated to the team before the 2005 season.
According to the Jonesboro Police Department, Littleton has had at least three other run-ins with law enforcement.

Just read this.I'm glad the Ark St coach did his own internal investagation.Just maybe the player could be innocent.I don't know all the details. But arrested on the team bus.None of us knows what happened.Could of been an over zealous cop,etc
But if you read the article this guy has already been suspended and the local police said he has "some run in with the police".
But as the song says..Put me in coach..."
Things like this I hate.Esp in bowls. And no one goes untouched.Paterno a few years back played a kid who had flunked out but his grades didn't get sent out until after Jan 1.Texas the same a few yrs back.many, many, many more.Don't remember what school but one star player stopped going to class in mid November, everyone knew he was dropping out but got to play in a bowl game..
Texas cornerback last week in trouble but I think they cleared him.
Where does this end?I don't think a day goes by where some D-1 player is arrested,suspended.etc.
Maybe it happened just as much in the old days but today everything gets reported.
I hope So Miss kicks the hell out of Ark St tonite.I know I'm being somewhat spiteful. And again I don't know all the facts but this kids track record isn't anything to write home about.
Go So Miss.... but...are they any So Miss kids that got in trouble????
So Miss by 3 td's **
