After 20 years of going to this track, I've seen enough races to make a few generalizations:

1. The 1 1/8 mile distance that will be used in the Juvenile races and the Distaff is very speed favoring. Many horses who tire going 1 mile at AP end up wiring when stretched out to 1 1/8 miles. The run to the turn isn't very far, and outside post positions are at a severe disadvantage.

2. Arlington's main track tends to be either outside or neutral. Lots of 2-3 path days and sometimes even 4 path days. The cooler the weather, the more likely the rail will be dead. I also wouldn't be surprised to see AP's track crew scrape the track to try to get a stakes or track record. Only adjusted times matter, but those in charge of racetracks don't understand speed figures, so all they see are actual times. Hopefully, this will not happen.

3. Like most turf courses, you have to save ground. Speed biases on AP's turf are pretty rare, and when they have happened its usually during the heat of summer if there hasn't been much rain. The weather and turf should suit the Europeans just fine.

Once again, Arlington showed that at 1 1/8 miles, it is a paradise for speed. Hold That Tiger ran a pretty impressive race to get where he did in the Juvenile.
