This is one of Bobby Ross's most winnable games but I think on this homecoming day they come up short.Jones is there only weapon and he missed half of the UConn game with a pulled stomach muscle.He has not practiced this week and although Army never releases injury reports he is doubtful.W/O him CM defense who shutout Akron in the 2nd half should stop any Army attack.Replacing Jones is converted WR Wesley.He is 26-95 and scored 3 Td's but is not a threat.There is no depth at the running backs.Gulsby the FB who is a solid blocker cannot run.He has 20 yds rushing.Anderson and Viti have 37 and 2 yds.
Zac Dahman the Qb is the worst.The soph Pevato will come in early if ZD plays his normal game.ZD is 77-132 in passing.Oops 68-132.He threw the extra 9 to the wrong team.Plus another 5 or 6 passes that went right into a linebackers numbers.The oppsing teams are so shocked by the passes they miss the int's.
Conn scored 47 on there defense.Army defense did play well vs Iowa St and Baylor bur BC blew them away.
Chippewas have won 2 road MAC games beating Miami O and Akron on the rd.Penn St killed them but they lost in the 4th qrt to Indiana by a TD.
They have a super frosh in Ontario Sneed.He has over 570 yds in rushing but is just as dangerous in catching the ball. Smith the qb is 6'5 and mobile. He has as over 1,200 yds in the air and can run the ball with 4 rushing Td's. They have a solid WR in Linson and others with speed.
I don't think the Army defense will be able to stop Smith and Sneed will break a few long runs for a couple of TD's.
This MAC team is not to bad.Army is bad.Ross is now 2-13 as the coach.
Going away this weekend to visit my son at ECU.We have tickets to the Rice-ECU game.Looking foward to parents weekend in Greenville.I'll use his computer down there to update.If not maybe someone can bump this up on sat after this post goes to page 5.. GL
Chippewas beat my boys on Sat.Weather forecast is for heavy rain.If thats the case Army will be hurt'in even more. GL

sneed is one of the best freshmen in the country. kelly's found himself his running back for the next four years up in michigan.

Saw the Chipps live here last week and Ontario Sneed is the real deal bigtime, but not at all impressed with Smith. I was far more impressed with their line play on both sides of the ball. As the game progressed they became very dominant, totally negating a potent Zip offense in the second half.

Your support of CMU is not without considerable merit.

long story short-
jerry seymour was their starting running back the last two years. played as a freshman. was all mac as a sophomore last year.
over the summer, he was charged with perjury from his testimony about a fight/beating outside a club up there in michigan. the victim ended up dying. pretty sad situation. he was suspended from the team in the offseason but was expected to return be reinstated for this year as soon as his name was cleared.

problem is, more charges came. 2nd degree murder charges for him, and a few teammates and ex-teammates.

enter ontario sneed. chance to play opens up for the true freshman. they were really high on him as one of their top recruits. he's thrown into the fire. and he's responded big time. probably gonna be one of the best running backs in the mac for the next 4 years.

cmu was lucky. they turned a potentially terrible situation into something very positive as far as football goes. the whole legal thing was a mess. but to lose a first-team all-mac running back and replace him with a kid like sneed- theyre very lucky.

Reporting from Greenville,NC.It's raining so hard here for the past 2 days.ECU-Rice game is tonite and I went this morning and bought 3 drop clothes that you use for painting.We'll cut holes in them and use them as our raincoats.
It's raining at home just as bad.Last nite 2-3 inches in the Hudson Valley.Another few today.Michie Stad's homecoming will be as wet as my game tonite.
Jones probaly won't play.Ross said the other day"playing him may prolong his injury".So a converted WR will run the ball.With the weather so bad Army will be forced to run the ball all day.Dahman cannot pass on a sunny day so it looks bleak.
CM's qb Smith can run and throw.When your versatile like he is that should cause the Army defense mucho problems.The rain will effect Army more then CM.Plus CM has a stud running back in Sneed.

ECU-Rice game
ECU is favored but the weather might help Rice since it's attack is the running game.I like ECU until I arrived and it's rained the past 2 days.

Did you hear what the midshipman did as a prank to AF.I love the service academies pranks when they play each other.Of course the best was 2 yrs ago when Army stole the Navy goat,dyed it pink and tatooed a big Army "A" on it's ass.Then when Army's team came out of the tunnel it was led by the goat.
I'll paste the Navy prank here.

Mids pull off daring prank in heart of wild blue yonder

A dozen midshipmen earned the grudging respect of the Air Force Academy by repainting a jet fighter on the Colorado academy's grounds blue and gold, and labeling it with "Navy" and "Blue Angels."

The mids, who are studying there this semester as part of an exchange program, pulled off the prank sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, in advance of Saturday's Navy-Air Force football game in Annapolis.

"This jet is in the center of cadet life," Air Force Academy spokesman John Van Winkle said yesterday. "You cannot be a cadet at the academy and not notice that plane."

The F-4D Phantom fighter, which downed six enemy MiGs in the Vietnam War, is in the middle of the Air Force Academy's assembly area, surrounded by dormitories, a classroom building and the campus chapel. Mr. Van Winkle said. It is normally painted tan and green.

"They have created a little bit of a legacy," Mr. Van Winkle said of the visiting midshipmen.

A Naval Academy spokesman was laughing when he discussed the incident.

"Good on 'em," Cmdr. Rod Gibbons said yesterday of the pranksters.

Mr. Van Winkle offered the Naval Academy some friendly advice:

"Be sure to ask the Navy people about the brass goat statute - just to see if anything happened there," he said of the statute that stands inside Gate 1.

Naval Academy spokesman Judy Campbell said this morning that 20 Air Force cadets are studying in Annapolis this semester, but they have not retaliated. Yet.

"Not at this point, we haven't had any pranks played," Ms. Campbell said. "But it's still not Saturday."

The hoaxes, sometimes called "spirit missions," are all in good fun. The only rules are that the pranks do no permanent damage, and must be cleaned up the following day. In this case, the mids wisely used coloring that washed off the Air Force plane.

Mids in past years have painted things such as "Go Navy!" on a wall at the Air Force Academy, and West Point cadets painted a Ranger insignia on a roof another year but nobody has ever performed a stunt of this magnitude, Mr. Van Winkle said.

The whole rivalry is about the Commander-in-Chief Trophy, awarded each year to the academy that wins the most inter-service football games.

Navy has won it the past two seasons, but Air Force has won it 22 times to Navy's 11 since the trophy was created in 1972. Navy goes into Saturday's game with a season record of 1-2, and Air Force with a 2-3 record, but Navy is a 1 point favorite because of home-field advantage.

Navy may have lost its edge over Air Force in May, when its star fullback graduated.

"We will see about the Commander-in-Chief Trophy," Mr. Van Winkle said. "That thing was here for seven years in a row. Then, Kyle Eckel came along. He just tore us up. Now, we're glad he's gone."
