There was a ranking in the Army Spec -5. Could be they added a Tech-5. Unless the T/5 has something to do with 5th army. Is that all it has is T/5. Do you know if he was in a Tank Company. It might mean Tank?? 5th Army. But it all seems to short. The military just loves haveing very long ID's. Like Sergent 1st classe, John Doe, 1st Platoon, Company A, 5th Army Division. Ft Lenard Wood Missouri. USA

The rank insignia for the U.S. Army in World War II were modified on January 8th, 1942 with the addition of the ranks of Technician 3rd Class (T/3), Technician 4th Class (T/4) and Technician 5th Class (T/5). On September 4th, 1942 a "T" was added to the standard chevron designs for these new grades. Although they wore chevrons similar to corporals and sergeants, technicians had no command authority or duties, and could not issue orders to regular sergeants, corporals or privates. The technician grades were deleted in 1948.
....................

I belive a T/5 ranking is equivilant to todays corporal. The Techs usually had some specialized training or eduaction...todays army now shows no distinction.

I wonder if there is any way to find out how long he served, when, kind of training etc.etc.etc..............This is actually a friends father he never knew. His mother has passed and the only info he has is his name and what he found on the burial records. Surely the Army keeps these records but getting them is another matter.

That would require the request of a dd214, which one would have to contact tha army for. I think you would need his social security number for that.

Have him contact his state's VA Department. They may be able to help him. Otherwise I would suggest heading down to the Army recruiting office near him and asking for assistance in tracking down the records.

They SHOULD be helpful enough to point him in the right direction as to what buildings to call and who to track down.
