This game looks too easy, but the explanation for the line is justified in the fact that it is in Starkville, it's an sec game, and auburn has to play ball on the road with a short week of work.
I listened to Tommy Tuberville's press conference, and he said that they had two good days of full practice on sun and mon, and he is resting some people to get their legs back to 100% for Thursday. He also added that the offensive line will be back to full strength as Strong tackle Bourgois returns after having his shoulder popped back into place last Saturday.

The x factor in this game has to be Fant. Fant is a decent qb with a nice arm, as far as the targets he is throwing to I don't know, but Tubberville said that they will be more physical in this game than they were at USC, to me this means increasing the pressure on Fant, in his first sec action.

The D-line will definitely shut down Miss St.'s running game and the talented linebacker core will help to stuff the run and put Fant on his ass as many times as they can.

Carnell should flex his muscle against this Miss St. front which is very weak, this will in turn help open up the play action, and the intermediate passes that Daniel Cobb is most comfortable with.
Miss St's defense will definitely have alot of tricky schemes as they always do under Joe Lee Dunn, but I don't think they have the talent to hold off the tigers all night.

As far as the short week, I had the privilege of talking to some of the players after the Vandy game and they looked like they didn't even play in a game. These guys are starters on defense and they assured me that if anything else they would be well rested.
No excuses would be made on their part about being unrested for Thursday.

This sec matchup should be a good one, it always is. Don't underestimate Miss St. at home, although outmatched personnel wise they will find a way to at least keep Auburn on their toes.
But the line dictates me to pick a winner and Auburn will win the game.

Im on auburn but ...

Im on auburn but ...

they are 1-4 SU (didnt cover the win) vs MSU last 5 and havent outgained them once ....

oh well, heres one funny anecdote, the guy who helped jump start rivals.com married Don James's daughter and I wrote for him back when ... I recall when Robo QB Marinovich came into UW Stadium as -3 and this guy (my boss) was sweating, being a Husky lunatic, on friday nite b4 the game ... I said, Dawgs big ... He said Y ... I says, "Just b/c" ... I cant remember final, i think 31-3 UW ...

Point is, William Goldman* said about Hollywood: Nobody knows nothing.

(*he wrote The Princess Bride, Maverick, All The Presidents Men, Butch and Sundance)

anyhow, I think it's Auburns turn even tho history warns not so

It is true about these fickle sec games, so I must say now that I am not an AU fan, so my objectivity is clear on this one.

I agree with Bamatout, I think Auburn's talent level will pull them through, with real gamebreakers on both sides of the ball. As an Auburn alumnus, I know Auburn's main goal each year is to win the SEC west and get to Atlanta. I read an article this morning in the paper which illustrates this point:

The Auburn coaches pored through Mississippi State film on the eve of the Vanderbilt game. They studied the Bulldogs' tendencies and personnel over the summer.

Then they began a crash course for the players this week, trying to implement a game plan in four days before Thrusday nights's game in Starkville.

"We were planning on it all sumer long," offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino said. "The difficulity is teaching it to the players in a limited amount of time. We're going to see how mature we are and how well we can recover as an offense and and study teh different looks and be sharp."

Even though this will be AU's 4th game in 18 days, the last two have been blowouts, wherein a lot of starters got some rest. I think Auburn comes ready to play, knowing that this is prime opportunity to start 2-0 in the SEC and take advantage of Miss State on an off-year talent wise. As a rule, I normally never bet on Auburn when giving up points. However, giving up less than a field goal versus on out-classed State team is too good to pass up.

Playin' Auburn -2.5

relax and take the under

relax and take the under

you guys shouldn't be so concerned with the side in this game, for i think it can go either way and will be nerve-wracking to watch. this little riveraly sec game is going to produce a total that closes under the posted number. sit back, dump a unit on the under, and forget the side in this one.

take it for what its worth

Couldn't disagree with you more on the total. I see this total going well over 50. This isn't the same MSU team of the past, which was a stellar defense and a good running game. This MSU team can't stop the pass or the run. Auburn should have a field day against this defense. Look for Carnell to have 150+ yds and Cobb to pass for 2 TD's. This now in turns puts MSU in a tough spot. To they try and set up the run, of which they don't have one. Or do they rely on Fant's arm. I believe the latter will happen. MSU realizes that they won't be able to run the ball against Auburn. So they will pass, pass, pass. MSU will start to look like Oakland against Pitt.

So I really like the over 42' and 1 prop play that I will post seperate.
