Wyoming is the only team on the Aggies 2018 schedule that had a winning record at the FBS level last year.
Wyoming returns nine offensive starters and eight on the defensive side of the ball.
Like the Aggies, Wyoming will feature a new starting quarterback after starter Josh Allen was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. The Cowboys have a pair of redshirt freshman quarterbacks. Wyoming was ninth in scoring offense last season in the Mountain West with 23.5 points per game and dead last in rushing offense, but with nine starters back on that side of the ball, they should improve.
Defensively, Wyoming was fourth in total defense in the Mountain West and will be facing an Aggies offense that will either have a first-year starter or backup Nick Jeanty, who has been Tyler Rogers' backup throughout his career. Wyoming led the Mountain West last year in scoring defense (17.5 ppg). Wyoming had 20 interceptions last year and only allowed 3.48 yards per carry on the ground so it will be interesting to see if the Aggies continue to put the ball in the air or attempt to return to a more balanced attack to start the season.
Phil Steele ranks New Mexico State's schedule No. 130th in terms in difficulty as the Aggies' 2018 opponents had a 37.2 winning percentage last season.
