Auto Club 400 Preview

NASCAR heads to California this weekend for the Auto Club 400. Jimmie Johnson is the defending champion and a five-time winner at Fontana. While Johnson is the favorite in NASCAR odds, he is not the only contender to win Sunday?s race.

The Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California has seen a decrease in fans so NASCAR is going with just one race at the track this season instead of two. It will be interesting to see how many fans show up on Sunday since it will be the only race at the track this year. Jimmie Johnson is the 5-2 favorite at SBG Global.com but five other drivers have single-digit odds. Carl Edwards is the second choice at 5-1 and it is hard not to like Edwards as he has led in three of the four races this year and already has a win this Nascar betting season. The Roush cars could have a big day on Sunday if history is any indication. Until last year when Johnson won, the Roush cars had dominated in the spring at Fontana with five straight wins. Matt Kenseth has had a ton of success in this race and he could be a good choice at double-digits odds. The Roush cars dominated at Las Vegas a few weeks ago as they had the top four qualifying spots and the race winner and it could be a similar scenario in California.

This race has seen 13 different winners throughout the years with Jimmie Johnson leading with five wins while Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon have three wins each. Starting position is not that important at Fontana as the pole sitter has never won the spring race. Just about half of the 21 races have been won from starting positions outside the Top 10.

So far this season there have been four different drivers who have a win but Jimmie Johnson is not on the list. This could be the race he breaks into the win column if he can keep the Roush cars behind him. Here are the top 10 drivers on the odds board at SBG Global.

Jimmie Johnson 5-2
Carl Edwards 5-1
Kyle Busch 7-1
Jeff Gordon 8-1
Tony Stewart 9-1
Denny Hamlin 9-1
Kevin Harvick 10.5-1
Kurt Busch 15-1
Greg Biffle 16.5-1
Matt Kenseth 18-1

Pit Stall Selections: The selections of pit stalls for the Auto Club 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway have been made.
Pole sitter #42-Montoya chose pit stall 1 [as do most pole sitters].

Outside pole sitter #11-Hamlin took pit stall 12A, the next stall with an opening in front of it.
#20-Logano, who starts 3rd took the 26th pit stall, the next stall with an opening in front of it.
The 43rd and final pit stall was taken by #17-Kenseth, who starts 11th.

To see where the drivers/teams pit stall is, see the pit selection chart on the Pit Stall Selection chart.(3-26-2011)
