Not hacked

I fixed this for someone a few weeks back - let me see if i can find the solution

had something to do with file permission - it is trying to save a file to a folder that does not have save permission

here we go -
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Avg2014\log\ to upload the update log and was told i dont have ownership to acess the folder AVG 2014..... Gained ownership of AVG 2014 and Log folders. Took a chance and backed up then deleted all the files it would let me and ran update again, Updated straight away with no general error......I'm on Vista 64bit so the file location maybe different...

so go to computer
c:
windows - syswow64 - config - systemprofile - appdata - local

right click avg2014
click properties
click security

at this stage - click your user that you are logged in as up top (Group or Username)
Then below (permission for system) click Allow next to Full Control
click apply
click ok

double click avg2014
double click log

select all and delete

some files will not delete - That's ok

Try to update again - should be no problem

I have switched from using AVG a couple years ago to Microsoft Security Essentials, which has been basically abandoned by Microsoft. I have since switched to Avast for a free version, it seems to do a good job

I've used avast as well on some other computers and they have not reported any problems.

Computer nerds used to create viruses aimed at creating annoyance and destruction but those have given way to data collection monsters. The Russian, FBI, International Division virus that came around about 18 months ago was the first hostage taking virus I had seen since the fake virus protection programs from 4-5 years ago.

They found that collecting your information and selling it was much more efficient.
