Just got back from Indianapolis for the 10 year old State Championship. We were one of 14 district winners playing down there.

Made it thru pool play undefeated. Won our quarter-final and semi-final games.

Then....we thru a clunker in the final. Made probably 5-6 errors got down 10-0. Rallied to make it 10-5 in the bottom of the 6th but struck out with the bases loaded.

For those of you that have never managed, you can't imagine how proud I was of my team. They battled, but unfortunately didn't get it going until the last two innings.

Second place out of about 190 all star teams....

We'll keep working. May be by the time they're twelve, who knows?

Thanks to the Indy guys for their info.

I know exactly what you mean by being so proud of your kids. I have one more Cal Ripken league game with my 10-12 year olds tonight, before playoffs. Such a great group of kids...I get so much more out of coaching them than they get from me, I assure you. rrc, you obviously did a great job with them...both you and the team have memories to last a lifetime.

Congrats.

On the downside of coaching kids (especially your own...lol), my son played football for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon in the 90+ heat and humidity (unbeknownst to me), took the mound for our game, and completely fell apart. The highlight was when he struck out swinging to one of his best friends, tossing the helmet and bat, kicking the dirt, and hating the world. It's great when you have to make your son an example for the team by sitting their sorry butt out for awhile after a meltdown...lol.

Not surprisingly, when your ace starter gets shelled in the first inning, and your #3 hitter strikes out and gets benched in the aftermath...your team generally loses the game. And so it goes. On to the playoffs - rest required...ha.

Coaching your own child is very very tough.

I had the same thing happen in the championship game. I bring my son in to replace my starter and he's got nothing. So I had to take him out. At least I escaped the hating the world stuff...but have certainly experienced it in the past.

Best of luck in the play-offs, keep us updated.
