The only reason they hired Shula was because of his tremendous character. Bama was looking for a safe hire after the Price debacle. However, whatever Bama's gains were in the character department, were lost in the coaching department. He sucked as a OC at both stops in the NFL. He's just not a good play caller and designer of plays. His offensive system sucks. How can you lose to mississippi state at home? Shula is very conservative in his life and how he runs his program. Unfortunately, this conservatism also translates to how he runs the offense. The only way he keeps his job is to hire a new OC and let him completely run the offense.

I am the furthest thing from a Bama fan. I am a diehard Auburn fan. Watching this program continue to struggle makes our whole state look bad.

Fawk Shula!

Hilliard you are either not from the state of Alabama or an imposter. Any die hard AUburn fan would love Shula to be bammer's coach forever.

Not an imposter. I just don't think a Shula coached bama team does the SEC or Auburn any favors. I'd rather have bama be undefeated every year when Auburn beats them. When Bama is doing well and we beat them it makes us look A LOT BETTER. As of right now, when we play them this year, it is a no win situation. If we win... we were supposed to win. If we lose, it makes their season and diminishes AU's respectability across the country. This is the greatest rivalry in the history of college football. With Shula at the helm, it loses some of its luster.

There are some Auburn fans that would love for Alabama to lose all of its games. I'm not one of those fans.

Auburn is forever tied to Alabama. There is so much history. When Alabama plays as poorly as they are playing, it does not help us.

Just my opinion.

You could not be more wrong. I now know for sure that you are not from Alabama. In state recruiting is huge and when Alabama is down it helps AUburn tremendously. Not to mention all of the negative in-state media. If you lived in Alabama or followed Auburns rivals or scout boards you would feel differently.

shula did not get hired b/c of his character. he got hired b/c of his name and he was one of the few coaches w/ bama ties after price was fired.

as for his character, he has been constantly ridiculed by both auburn and alabama fans for his lack of discipline (ie. juwan simpson incident)

i still think they will stick with him for one more year, although he will be getting lots of pressure to hire a new oc and turn over the play calling in the offseason.
