This is my first season capping mlb so I'm still in the learning curve. I had a question about the GB:FB ratio. What is considered a "high" ratio. I understand the relationship (higher obviously more ground outs etc) but was wondering at what number can you assume the pitcher is a predominantly ground ball pitcher. For example, in the Cubs game today Prior has a GB:FB ratio of .28 overall, so he relies heavily on fly ball outs. On the other hand, Burba has a GB:FB ratio of 1.53 in his last 3. So what is considered "high". Do numbers approach 3 or 4 or what??

Also, how much stock do you put into these ratios. Today, since the wind is blowing out at Wrigley, do you think this is a good reason to not go with the Cubs and the chalk since Prior gives up so many fly balls. Is this a good enough reason to look at Texas even though Burba has been horrible lately, or just a reason to maybe pass?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

May be a good reason to pass. In Prior's only bad start, he gave up 3 wind-blown home runs against Houston. Most pitchers get more ground ball outs than fly ball outs. I'd say anytime a pitcher has more FB outs than GB, they are a FB pitcher. A real GB pitcher would probably have at least a 3-2 ratio. But don't forget Prior gets a lot of outs on strikeouts. But I can't take Texas in this spot, w/Gonzalez out and I think Burba is one bad start away from retirement.
