Cincinnati/San Diego +190
-Cincinnati comes into todays game looking to avoid the sweep vs Washington and they are stating lefty Nick Lodolo who is in excellent current form, going 4-1 with an ERA of just 2.20. He is a better pitcher on the road this season than at home, posting an ERA of just 2.56 with 60K's in just 59 2/3 IP.. His counterpart, Mike Soroka is having an awful year, going 3-7 overall with an ERA of 5.10. His team has lost his last 6 starts and he has terrible current form going 0-5 with an ERA of 5.18. If that is not enough, Soroka is terrible during day games this year, going just 1-4 with an ERA of 7.22! In the other game, the Padres (off a heartbreaking loss last night) remain just 3 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Their starter, Dylan Cease is not having a good year but there ARE some positive signs. In his last start (a win) he pitched 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 10! He is much better pitcher on the road, going 2-1 with a nice ERA of 3.13. Remember that last year, he was the team's ace, going 14-8 with a 3.27 ERA and 224 K's in 189 IP as well as throwing a no-hitter. Pitching for the Marlins is gas can Sandy Alcantara who has a brutal record of 4-9 wit ha 7.19 ERA overall. He has already started once this year vs San Diego giving up 6 ER's on 7 hits and 4 walks in just 4 IP with 0 strikeouts.
Atlanta RL +125
-Despite winning last night, the Giants are not in a good place right now, going just 1-6 their last 7 games and fading fast in the NL West. Today, they start 42-year-old Justin Verlander who is 0-8 on the season with a hefty ERA of 4.99. He is 0-4 on the road with an ERA of 5.67 and an opponents batting average of .316! In his last start, he didnt make it out of the 3rd inning, giving of 4 ER's on 9 hits and 2 walks before getting yanked! Atlanta starts RHP Spencer Strider who has great current form, posting a nice 3.43 in his last 5 starts. In his last start, he shutout the Yankees in Atlanta on just 3 hits in 6 IP with 8 K's. He has much better stats while pitching at home AND during the day. In addition, in his last start at home vs the Giants, he shut them out on 1 hit in 7 IP with 10 K's in a 4-0 victory.
Boston +136
-The Red Sox come into Philadelphia looking to avoid the 3-game sweep. While the Phillies have an excellent home record, starter Jesus Luzardo does not, posting a rather high ERA of 4.80 in 10 starts. Boston starts RH Lucas Giolito who has been a revelation for the Red Sox this year, posting a very nice 6-2 record with a 3.53 ERA. On the road, he has been even better, going 3-1 with an ERA of just 2.45 and striking out 43 batters in 42 innings pitched. Furthermore, I like his current form, going 4-2 with an ERA of just 1.97 in his last 5 starts. In short I like the Red Sox to avoid the sweep at a very nice underdog price.
