To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year have decided to extend this years event over a week. This is to recognise outstanding winners from previous decades in a ?Sports Personality of the Decade? award. At the end of the ?Decades? series, the top five picked by the viewers will go through to the final live vote to decide the winner of the prestigious Golden Sports Personality award.

I have taken a look at every candidate that is contesting each decade and come up with my opinions and recommendations of bets. I have gone through each decade and a full write up can be found in my community pages in the "selections and analysis" section. I have posted only the plays here.

Decade 1954-63......Stirling Moss @ 8/11 x 4 points

Decade 1964-73......Bobby Moore @ 1/2 x 5 points

Decade 1974-83......Ian Botham @ 1/1 x 2 points

Decade 1982-93......Nick Faldo @ 9/2 x 1 point
Steve Davis @ 8/1 x 1 point

Decade 1994-2003....Steve Redgrave @ 2/5 x 5 points

GOLDEN AWARD........Steve Redgrave @ 6/4 x 4 points
Bobby Moore @ 2/1 x 1 point

I can't find any book (I checked oddschecker and bestbetting) that has these events.

You must've filled them in because they ain't doing it now. Betfair has Golden Award only but Redgrave is being offered at only 4/7. Can get 16/5 on Moore though so I'll take a nibble on that.

I have today been in conversation with customer services and the manager of the odds makers at Paddy Power.

By what I can gather they aswell as several other bookmakers have taken a hiding on Steve Redgrave to win both the decade of 1994-2003 and as the golden winner. In most decade catergories they have very lobsided books and people were still prepared to back Bobby Moore at 1/5 for decade 1964-73.

As the voting has started they have taken all prices down and will probably open the book up once again for the final five (golden award).

I have had no joy with Blue Square.

My advice for Moore was more as a saver (just in case factor). I really feel that Redgrave is a solid bet. Five Olympic gold medals is over a span of sixteen years. That is some achievement to stay at the top of your profession for such along time.

I maybe wrong on some of the other decades but if I am correct in Redgrave and wrong with the rest then I lose 6 points. If I am correct with three of the five decade winners then I will show a profit.

UPDATE

UPDATE

I have already advised backing Steve Redgrave on the Fixed Odds BBC Sports Personality Golden Winner, but I am going to also take advantage of Sporting?s quote of 30-33 (1st=50pts/2nd=25pts/3rd/10pts).

Since my Fixed Odds preview went out on the community pages to back Redgrave the odds have steadily shortened and are currently trading at around 2/5 on the exchanges. Already talked up in two of the three decade shows, Redgrave is looking almost certain to take the top prize.

Buying at 33 would give punters a 17-point profit should he win and an 8-point loss if he were to come second. Anything else in my opinion would represent a massive shock given his career achievements compared to the other competitors.

It is a risk well worth taking in the circumstances so;

BUY @ 0.5 points Steve Redgrave @ 33 on sporting's index.

BUY @ 0.5 points Steve Redgrave @ 33 (50/25/10) on sporting's index. WON

A great opportunity that proved very profitable with a return of +20.91 points profit.

That to go with small profits on last weekends football plays and boxing wagers making +23.13 points profit on the weekend. On the downside, my cricket plays don't look to healthy at present with both games played to a finish on Tuesday and a probable loss of 3.1 points.

This weekends profits will once again insure another month of profits making it fifteen profitable months out of sixteen since I have been posting at madjacks and more importantly, over 300 points profit.

Whoever says solid profits can't be made from sportsbetting must be fooling themselves. I have continued to prove that it can be done, not short-term, but over 16 months.

Well thats the Christmas expenses taken care of and another family holiday this summer as I am booking up for the European Football Championships which take place in Portugal.
