I am cooking a boston butt today and am wanting to make some different bbq sauce. Before trusting a recipe on the net, I am wondering if anyone wants to share a recipe they have?

Probably too late for this time, but when it is smoked, I don't like to mess up the taste with a heavy sauce. I like the following, which makes 1 qt.:
3 cups white vinegar
1 cup Apple cider
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red peppar
1/2 - 1 teaspoon hot sauce

man... that sounds awesome. I wish I had a little bit more time to throw this together. I will definitely try this out next time... which could be tomorrow...

Thanks man :toast:

I use the same mixture as Sampson but I add one cup brown sugar.
Wait and mix the sauce in after you pull the pork apart. I have been using this type sauce for years and you just can't beat it. Carolina Mopping Sauce rocks. It works great with venison hind quarters too, but you need to wrap venison after the first couple hours with foil to hold in moisture.

Just buy apple cider vinegar instead of buying white vinegar and apple cider. You can get a gallon for about 3 bucks.

awesome fellas... I appreciate it. I ended up using some store bought bbq sauce since I didn't have any vinegar. I also had some homemade wing sauce that I made up and added a little bit of that to a sandwich and it was awesome.

I might get the grill going again today for 'dega and make this sauce up.

how long do yall simmer it for?

Looks like I'm about to head to store to buy some meat... I'm thinking about some chicken, ribs.... and whatever looks good.

I am going to buy the ingredients for this to see how it works! once again, I appreciate it!

Don't need to simmer mine. Just heat up to get everything mixed together.
I will have to try mixing in brown sugar. Guess is that it may need to be cooked a bit more than mine. Would be good on ribs, but like a red sauce on chicken.

It was a little vinegary, but all in all it was great. I will try to mess around with some and see if I can't find some "secret" ingredients to make it great.

once again, thanks sampson and slink dawg... we thoroughly enjoyed it.

BTW i mixed the white vinegar with apple cidar. I should have added a little bit more cidar to the mix, but I didn't want it to lose its bite.

If I do a small 6lb butt I will use this mix. ( I only pour it on the pulled meat until the meat is really moist and discard the rest.)

1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup brown sugar
1 table spoon crushed red pepper
1 table spoon salt
1 table spoon cajun seasoning(any brand will do)

I don't heat it. I usually mix it the nite before and put it in the frig. I works great if you put it in a 20 oz. coke bottle with a lid so you can really give it a shake before pouring on the pulled meat.

I don't know if you know but for pulled pork you need to use a therometer and it will be ready to pull when the internal temp reaches about 190. If you know it will be awhile before you serve wrap your butt in a towel and put in a cooler. I have done this for about 3 hours and no one ever noticed.

Try different things to get the taste you want but let us know what you like so we can try it. GOOD LUCK.
