Learn Your Chipping Clubs
You have an arsenal of chipping weapons in your bag. Learn the characteristics of each possible club that you might be using. Take your PW, 9-iron, 8-iron and 7-iron to the practice green and repeat the same long chip again and again. Memorize the carry and roll characteristics of each tool. Try to hit each with the same stroke. Then try them all on an uphill chip and again from thick rough. Most players have a favorite chipping club, but knowing when to pull another option from the bag is the key to saving many strokes around the green.

Chipping - Pick a Spot and Point To It
It's an oft repeated tip that is rarely understood with any real comprehension. When you chip, you are aiming at a spot well in front of the pin. That spot is where you want the ball to land. You are not aiming for the pin. You are aiming at the spot. It's location will vary depending upon the loft of the club you are using and the length of the chip. You must prejudge the amount of carry and roll that is needed and calculate your landing spot. Once you've determined that forget the pin (or cup). It is not the same as a putt. Forget the pin and aim at your landing spot. Make a habit of actually pointing to the exact spot.

Use Your Arms When Chipping
Unlike wedge shots, a chipping motion is a stroke, not a swing. It is much more similar to a long, putting stroke than it is to a swing used for a wedge shot. The arms swing free. The torso should stay relatively stationary without rotation.
