Making his bid to become the 12th winner of thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown, American Pharoah drew the fifth post for the 2015 Belmont Stakes during a ceremony held Wednesday at Rockefeller Center in New York. He'll be the 14th 3-year-old colt with a chance to place his name in the history books since the last Triple Crown winner, Affirmed in 1978.American Pharoah was given 3-5 morning line odds for the 1-1/2 mile race. Frosted, from the sixth spot, is the second-favorite, at 5-1 odds. Materiality, starting from the eight post, was set at 8-1.
"I've always liked the 5," American Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert said of the draw.
Since 1978, 13 horses have entered the Belmont and left unsuccessful. Last year California Chrome finished just outside the money in fourth. Of the 13 attempts, eight finished in the money and four finished in second. The most recent of those was Smarty Jones in 2004, behind Birdstone.
"I want to win it for the horse," Baffert said. "It's something I don't think about. Right now we just want to stay focused, keep the horse happy, healthy. I've got a great team around me."
The 147th running of the Belmont Stakes will go to post at 6:50 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.

Only 7 contenders...LOL

American Pharoah already ate some Frosted Flakes in the Derby......Frosted can`t beat this horse....Didn`t do it the Derby and won`t do it here.

Same for Materialality......American Pharoah beat him in the Derby....Enough said!

American Pharoah in a Rocking Chair Race......Horse won`t even see the WHIP.

if you are basing capping this race off of what happened in the Derby, you will not be very profitable in horse racing.

if you are basing ANY race off of what happened in a previous race with entirely different race dynamics and an entirely different distance, you will not be a profitable horse racer.

Pharoah was hit 32 times in the Derby, and he BARELY put away Firing Line, who failed to switch leads in the stretch. Had Firing Line switched leads, his jock and many many others believe he would have won that race.

Frosted was closing strong into a SLOW pace in the Derby.

Materiality had big traffic trouble and took a lot of kickback and rated off the pace for the first time in his career.

This race is at a mile and a half. If you think this is a walk in the park for Pharoah, you are terribly mistaken.

I am pretty confident that Pharoah will not win this race.

Is Pharoah the fastest horse in this race? Probably. But you need to understand that betting the fastest horse isnt going to make you cash tickets.

What are you basing his ability to get the mile and a half distance? His breeding suggests otherwise.

Also, the last horse to win the Belmont who was the "fastest" horse in the race, was Afleet Alex 10 years ago. And before that it was I think 7 years prior.

Pharoah has never raced at Belmont. The surface is entirely new. He worked at Churchill. He has never had a race around the wide sweeping Belmont turns.

Playing Pahroah at short odds in this race is absolutely ludicrous. Almost as ludicrous as the ideology that since he beat them in a previous race, the tables cant be turned. Pharoah is on his 3rd grueling race in 5 weeks. The others you mentioned are fresh.

I would love to see a triple crown winner because it is something spectacular, but I do not believe Pharoah will do it and the history only backs that theory.

Laying money on a horse that will be 3/5 in a spot this tough is insane.

Good luck with whatever you bet, but if you plan on putting any money on Pharoah to win, I would play the exotics. The win pool will be flooded not only with average joe fans wanting to bet on Pharoah, but people betting for souvenir tickets.
