Bengals confirm Dalton will not play vs. Steelers

The Cincinnati Bengals have officially ruled out quarterback Andy Dalton for Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

AJ McCarron will continue to start in Dalton's absence.

Dalton was expected to miss at least the first game of the playoffs due to a fractured right thumb, with the possibility that he could return if the Bengals advance.

The 28-year-old had the cast on his hand removed Wednesday.

Dalton sustained the injury Dec. 13, forcing McCarron into the starting lineup. The Bengals went 2-1 with the second-year quarterback under center.

McCarron has played consistently, with the Bengals not asking him to shoulder too much of the offensive responsibility. The 25-year-old has thrown six touchdowns and two interceptions since taking the reins from Dalton.

Keith Wenning will back up McCarron.

I can`t believe the bengals haven`t tried to obtain someone with more experience than wenning to back-up McCarron....he took some shots last week and got up very slowly after one in particular..
