Blitz, don't laugh but I have all 3 indirectly.
My younger brother has the Gamecube while I have the X-BOX and PS2.
Are there any particular features that you are looking for?
Graphics? Games? Warranty?

PS2 gets my vote, but X-BOX IMHO has the best game out with HALO, and HALO2 should be out soon...

It seems to be between PS2 & XBOX...
Of the 2, which one would have the best games for younger kids?
Or are they about the same, just wondering if either or both is more geared to older kids or adults...

Younger kids I think the choice is Gamecube just based on the developers they have signed and their games.
Myself I must rate Xbox over PS2, though I play both and like both. Xbox gets the nod though because of its ability to output 480p and 1080i which just makes for amazing graphics on a widescreen HDTV. I have been playing Splinter Cell for a week or so and it just blows my mind how they can make it look so realistic.
