The Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, also known as "The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans". When peeking into history on this prestigious race, one can reveal that it is by far the easiest prize of the Triple Crown.

Perhaps it is the typically smaller field than both the Derby and Belmont, coupled with the shorter distance (a mere 1 3/16 miles), in addition to the consistency and predictability of Pimlico, have all contributed to the impressive margins of the winners... or perhaps it?s just a coincidence?

Nonetheless, this century alone has seen two horses win the Preakness by more than nine lengths while turning less than spectacular performances in the Derby and the Belmont Stakes.

In 2004 Smarty Jones was able to capture the Preakness Stakes in a remarkable 11 1/2 lengths, which bested the previous record of 10 lengths set by Survivor in the first running of the race in 1873. But yet Smarty Jones' Derby win that year came with less by only 2 3/4 lengths, while missing the Belmont by a length to Birdstone.

Will Barbaro be the next Triple Crown winner? Bet on the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of the Triple Crown of horse racing, in the Bodog Sportsbook.

So though the Preakness can be seen as the easiest race of the Triple Crown, one can also say it is one of the fastest. This is what is so intriguing and entertaining about this race. Because of its shortness in length, horses are able to display their true speed, giving its viewers quite the treat to watch. This years Preakness that is set to run this Saturday should be no different. With Barbaro and Brother Derek, two of horse racings fastest sprinters set to run a quick paced duel, the Preakness should prove interesting to say the very least.
