The Betting Pool
If you are playing a pool, you don?t know what the other players have predicted as a score outcome. You are also not aware of the amount of money they have put in the pool. Only the total of the pool is shown and also the number of players with their nicknames. At the closing of the pool - this is just before game time- we e-mail you, what the total amount in the pool is, how many players there are and which scores they predicted. This information is also available at your own account under the section "open bets". From this moment you can see what you will win if your score is the right one.
How does it work ?
You can win money by predicting the right closing price for the index. Pools are made for the different indices each business day. The value of a pool is given in dollars ($). In order to participate in an index pool, you have to buy 1 or more pool shares that represent a particular closing price for the index. The price of the pool share depends on the nominal value of the pool share, which is $ 1 in most cases, and the moment at which you buy the pool share. When you buy a pool share with a nominal value of $ 1 before the Stock Exchange opens, then it will cost $ 1. If you buy a pool share 1 hour before the Stock Exchange closes then you pay $ 3. The reason for this is that the price of a pool share increases according to the length of time the Stock Exchange has been open. This is because you have a higher chance of making a good prediction just before the Stock Exchange closes than someone who has bought a pool share in the first hour. During a business day the cost of a pool share will triple. An accurate calculation of the price of a pool share is made every minute. You cannot buy any more pool shares in the last hour before the Stock Exchange closes. The pool closes 1 hour before the actual closing of the Stock Exchange. When the pool closes, each participant receives an e-mail containing the total amount in the pool and the shares sold.
How much can I win?
You have to predict the price change of the index correctly, in order to win. The value of 1 pool share depends on the total amount in the pool (what was paid for all pool shares taken together) and on the number of pool shares sold. We will give you an example:
On one particular day, the total amount in a pool for the index is $ 3000.
You have bought 2 pool shares for an index closing price between +1.20% and +1.39% compared with the previous day.
You bought these pool shares at 13.00 hours, therefore exactly in the middle of the business day for the Index.
Your pool shares had a nominal value of $ 1, therefore you have to pay 2 x $ 2.
The level of the index has increased 1.23%, therefore you own two winning pool shares.
A total of 24 shares were sold in the +1.20% to +1.39% option.
The total value of your 2 pool shares represents
3000 divided by 24 = 125 x 2 = $ 250.
What happens when nobody has predicted the right index change?
It is indeed possible that nobody predicts the right index change. The total amount in the pool will be put in the future pool. It is then possible to play in this future pool. So you buy a pool share and you have to predict the closing price of the index for the Friday of the following week. You have to make this prediction before the Monday morning of the week in which the future pool is playing. Everybody who has bought a pool share from a pool that has not paid out will receive an e-mail and is thereby informed that the total pool pot has been transferred to the future pool. If there is still no winner in the future pool, then the total pool pot will be transferred to the future pool of the following week.
