Bodemeister All the Way
by Pete Mitchell / BetOnline.com

Pace and trip were the dual keys to this year?s Run for the Roses. Bodemeister turned in a remarkable effort to get second. Suicidal early fractions cost him the victory. I?ll Have Another, on the other hand, benefitted from a perfect trip as well as Bodemeister?s misfortune to garner the victory. Things will be much different in the Preakness.

#7-Bodemeister (8-5) won?t have to deal with any Trinniberg?s in the Preakness. He should have the lead all to himself in moderate fractions, which will force #9-I?ll Have Another (5-2) to apply pressure at some point before the stretch run. I?ll Have Another has a nice cruising speed, but I?m not expecting Bodemeister to come back to him this time. A pace-pressing trip could cost I?ll Have Another a Preakness placing.

Look for #6-Creative Cause (6-1) to run a big one on Saturday. He had a much more difficult trip in the Derby than did 4th-place finisher #5-Went the Day Well (6-1), yet wound up just a half-length behind that rival. While Creative Cause was trying to win the race, Went the Day Well was enjoying what we call ?the suck up trip?, passing tired horses at the end. I love Creative Cause to turn the tables on Went the Day Well, and perhaps I?ll Have Another too.

The rest of the field will be settling for table scraps?perhaps a new shooter like Zetterholm or Cozzetti could round out the superfecta, but that?s about it.

Rather than take a short price on Bodemeister to win, I?ll key him on top in trifectas, and key Creative Cause second and third. Mix in Went the Day Well and I?ll Have Another, and the $1 trifecta tickets look like this: 7/6/5,9 and 7/5,9/6?total risk $4. To suit your bankroll, just add a zero or two.

Those are my horse racing betting tips for the 2012 Preakness. Best of luck and happy gambling!
