Alright guys, long time lurker, posted a few times but value you lots of your opinions. I?m turning the big 4-0 in two weeks and the Mrs. wants to buy me a Big Green Egg. I?ve got a really nice gas grill that is great for cooking quickly during the week but I want to get into smoking ribs, butts etc. I have noticed it seems like the Kamado Joe is slightly cheaper, comes with more accessories and has more accessories in the market. But I really like the the tables that you can get for the BGE. I?m currently looking at a Large BGE with the wood table. I also heard that some of the pellet smokers are nice, Tragaer, Rectec etc. what is everyone?s experience with the BGE vs Kamado Joe and sizes?

Thanks in advance for the input!

I have had ceramic smokers and Traeger pellet grill. For low and slow I would recommend either BGE or Kamado joe. I find holding low temps for a long period of time unreliable with a pellet grill. It takes a little more time to figure out, yet once you do! Ceramics are the best for butts and briskets? JMO :0008

btw- if you get a ceramic smoker? Buy an electric Starter which should have coals ready within about 10 minutes! It?s around 15.00 and we?ll worth it. Enjoy your birthday, 40 is a great age :0074

Agree with all the above.

For me, the BGE is fun and easy to use. On NFL Sunday's I will put a brisket on in the morning and have it ready by Sunday night Football

Thanks guys. I think that the pellet smoker is off the table. Looking at Big Green Egg vs Kamado Joe. Would hate to buy the ?off brand? and say I wanted BGE down the road.

On another note, I quit smoking cigarettes almost 20 yrs ago but have found I like cigars recently.. Macanudos and Maduros have been amazing, any other suggestions are also greatly appreciated!!

Big Green Egg was my choice because of Madjacker comments like above, and I have not looked back. Get the Egg from Ace Hardware and free delivery and setup. I had pictures of mine on here that Joker posted if you can search it. Or maybe Nick can. Good luck whatever your choice, wish I had mine back at 40, and ONLY GET an XL if you can afford it. You will thank me later. Gives you sooooo many options, especially pizza.
