Hmm Spy
What did I tell you about having to live with your convictions.

San Fran Aids capital of the world--and you want to pass on these life-style costs to rest of population--right.

If that guy already has a $5K deductible on each member of the family (I doubt that's true), then why is he not on an HSA plan with a high deductible policy?

Actually I think NY surpassed sa Fran this year in U.S.

my point being --live with your convictions and don't try an bring other areas into your equation to reduce the excess risk your are and should be paying for.

Oh your not a believer yet--lets combine their risk with Mn and and share the cost.
Then lets take your town and pool the home ownersrisk with getto's they torch every time they get angry.

Then on your auto lets combine your city with everyone in country that has had dui-multiple wrecks etc --right? I didn't think so.

Better yet lets pool on the reds states and blue states seperately. :)

you are such a #'s guy when it fits your rhetoric.. what are we talking about ? there are < 1 million lets say 2 million tops living with hiv or aids in America out of 300,000,000... what % of our health care goes to hiv/aids care ?

I know this is stupid and obviously so but ... when you say live with your confictions.. are you saying that becuase a person is from Ny or SF , they some how are part of or embrace the life style that causes aids ? aids is such a small % of our population.

--about 12 billion a year to treat a disease that is 99% preventible.

Here is crux of matter Mr B. The cost of treating and aids patient is about $2000 a month. With new drugs we can now extend life of aids patients by 20 years compared to 4 back in the 90's.
http://www.bio-medicine.org/medicin...-treatment-assessed-to-be--24618-900-15506-1/

Now considering the above and considering we both know that IV dug users and sex are main cause of aids--not too hard to figure the demographics. Then we have liberal changes of laws in some states where you can now claim domestic partner on you group insurance. ie You and I are are great friends --you live in CA I live in Ky.
I get aids and don't have ins. I can move to CA with you-and can be added on your group ins and covered in 6 months--you get the picture?
We in risk management call that- Adverse Selection

I think you'll agree on question I posed to Chad.

If we spend our lives leading healthy life styles--drive safely--live in decent neighborhood--
We deserve to be paying less for health-auto-homeowners as our risk is not as great to ins companies as those that don't.

If they pooled the risk and raised our premiums and lowered theirs to make all premiums equal--
--would be the same redistributing the wealth--
wouldn't it. :)

do your own research. Check out how much the antiviral drugs are. You pay for it indirectly and should probably know. Obviously the media doesn't tell you.

brilliant post... I know that the drugs are expensive... BIG PICTURE... WHAT % OF OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM PAYS FOR HIV/ AIDS ? we are talking about the treatment of 1million people out of 300,000,000...if you are looking for the demise of the system, I would look further... I know the anti gay, black , (your base ), poor, drug user, RHETORIC makes you & DTB feel good BUT ?? That's what this is all about RIGHT ??? we pay for many things indirectly... most of them are caused by rich, white, educated, politicans ,executives, bankers and wall st types... do your home work ! why do some people always look to the people with no wealth and no power to make them feel good about the problems we face ???? LOOK AT THE POWER & WEALTH, THE ANSWER IS THERE !!!!

I thought the discussion was about health care.

AIDS and other STD's (hepC) along with smoking and obesity and their consequential health outcomes, are all preventable with responsible behavior. You and I pay for these consequences directly and indirectly. You can check out what these costs are to society with a little research on your own. They make up a significant if not majority % of today's health care costs.

I am completely opposed to all these bailouts and think the markets have been sabotaged just as much as you with the hedge fund traders, cheats, crooks, and liars. I find the root problem to be a breakdown in morals in today's society along with a prosecution problem as our courts have also been sabotaged.

Example: Bernie Madoff. What ever happened to the swift hand of justice? Why is this guy not hanging on the nearest tree at dawn? Answer: the legal system has been compromised.

I'll pay for AIDS if I can get all of the fat asses and smokers out of my pocket.

Talk about preventable.

Nah . . . smokers and fat people die to quiickly to cause any problems. It's the squares and the Jesus freaks who put us under.

On a pure numbers basis, the obese and smokers have more spent on them than HIV/HepC. However individually, there is no comparison as the anti-retrovirals and interferon for HepC costs thousands monthly. And that is a fraction of their costs.

If you paid a visit to an ICU, where hospitalization runs 5 digits + per day, you will find an enormous amount of smokers/obese. Add to this the increased number of cancers from smokers especially and the costs of chemotherapy/imaging/hospitalization as well as lost time at work/productivity, and you will find an enormous burden on society and on the healthcare dollar.

No worries though, Barry O's plan has it set up to ration treatment. If you get cancer and the government deems you unworthy of treatment, you will not get any. Yes it will save money but yes it is completely unAmerican and inhumane.
