Big Ten-ACC Challenge betting preview
By JASON LOGAN | November 26, 2007 | 3 comments
The ACC has owned the Big Ten the past eight years like peanut butter owns jelly. It has a chance to extend its 48-27 record this week in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge, an event which pits the two best conferences in tournament history against each other in a series of head-to-head matchups.
However, with the ACC suffering a bit of a down year, this could be the Big Ten?s chance to win back some respect. There are 11 games from Monday to Wednesday, featuring classic showdowns, compelling rematches and historic first-time meeting.
MONDAY
Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Iowa Hawkeyes: 7 p.m. (all times ET)
The Deacs have their first big tests since the sudden death of head coach Skip Prosser this summer. Wake Forest has a 2-4 record in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge.
TUESDAY
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Indiana Hoosiers: 7 p.m.
The Hoosiers are on the bounce-back path after losing to Xavier this past weekend. Indiana shot just 38.5 percent from the field and 1-for-15 from 3-point land in that loss.
Northwestern Wildcats at Virginia Cavaliers: 7 p.m.
The Wildcats have had a tough time with a challenging schedule to start the season. Northwestern has faced Stanford, DePaul and Brown before the game against this ACC foe.
Minnesota Golden Gophers at Florida State Seminoles: 7:30 p.m.
The Noles upset the state-rival Gators on Friday for the second straight season. FSU opened up with a 25-9 run and its experience didn?t allow Florida to creep back into the game.
Wisconsin Badgers at Duke Blue Devils: 9 p.m.
It?s hard to believe but these teams have never faced each other. The Blue Devils are a perfect 8-0 in the Challenge and are rolling off a Maui title last week.
Purdue Boilermakers at Clemson Tigers: 9:30 p.m.
Purdue is working out the kinks and buying into Matt Painter?s patient preachings. It moved the ball for the open look and hit almost 60 percent from the floor in its last game.
WEDNESDAY
North Carolina State Wolfpack at Michigan State Spartans: 7 p.m.
MSU is the only Big Ten school with a winning record in the Challenge:scared , going 4-3. But the Spartans didn?t look sharp against Oakland this weekend.
Boston College Eagles at Michigan Wolverines: 7 p.m.
Michigan?s trip to Alaska ended with a disappointing 1-2 record with losses to Western Kentucky and Butler. The Wolverines are 3-3 to begin the John Beilein era.
Illinois Fighting Illini at Maryland Terrapins: 7:30 p.m.
The Terps rebounded from a poor showing at the CBE with a win over lowly Lehigh. Animated point guard Greivis Vasquez already has 26 total turnovers on the season.
North Carolina Tar Heels at Ohio State Buckeyes: 9 p.m.
The Buckeyes could catch a break if Ty Lawson sits out this week?s game with a sprained ankle. The Heels won last year?s Big Ten-ACC meeting 98-89 against an Oden-less OSU.
Virginia Tech Hokies at Penn State Nittany Lions: 9:30 p.m.
The Big Ten-ACC Challenge could actually come down to this final game. Both programs are coming off disappointing tip-off tournaments this past weekend.
